Players targetted / not targetted for criticism

im sick of this leave rowan alone
im so sick of this you guys giving rowan a hard time what about the other players today stop just blaming him.

This is "Adam Goodes' Babe" post to the "Rowan Warfe" thread.

I agree with the comments.

Why are some players criticised and others left alone ?
Is it because of cumulative lacklustre performances ?If so , well fair enough.
If not , then I'd expect a "Tadhg Kennelly" thread - he had a shocker today.
Three less touches , three fewer marks , two fewer tackles than Warfe.
Maybe he escapes citicism because it was a 'one-off', or maybe it's due to that sycophantic , patronising attitude that some people show towards the Irish.

Crezza was our best today , but still did a couple of daft things-and of course on-ballers lead the 'clanger' stats due largely to their high number of posessions.He's escaped criticism , and rightly so.

So , in fairness to defenders (including TK), their errors are magnified because

(1)they usually get less touches than a midfielder and have less chance to make up for mistakes with a bit of dazzling creativity.

(2)they can be more easily blamed directly for conceding a goal.

Warfe wasn't great today , but he was hardly a disgrace either.

I thin you will find that most reasonable posters on this board are refering to individuals' poor performance over a PERIOD of time, not just one match.

Warfe isn't up to AFL standard anymore. Simple as that. I would think with the return of Seymour and Saddington and the development of Powell that he is gone.

Nicks surely is also on borrowed time.

If Roos is true to his word about blooding the young uns this year at the expense of an end of season goal, next week you will see these two out of the side and Powell, Buchanan and others given a go.

Agree with Bart - those players are under criticism because of long periods of poor performance.

I try to avoid getting involved in the whole trade bait/delisting talk, because what I think really doesn't matter. The club know where they want to head, and will assess who can best do that.

What annoys me is people piping up to lay off players - this is an open forum and people are allowed to express their opinions; if someone doesn't agree with you, so be it, deal with it - either put forward a counter-argument (not some tripe saying "lay off"), and don't.

This whole lay-off business really irks me, just like the cheering the team off the ground after a poor performance; well actually cheering the team off after a poor performance irks me even more. They're big boys and professionals and what they get up here isn't even 1% of what they would have to deal with playing for Vic or SA clubs. Here they can walk down the street after being thumped and not have a word said to them, yet in other states, they would be abused by passionate fans.

Part of me when I see a player walking down the street thinks to leave them be, its their private time, so it should remain private, but the other part wants to say something to let them know I'm a supporter, and to congratulate/criticise based on the last game.

Back on to the original topic of the thread, for me, NOBODY is immune from criticism, just coz they might be a favourite player of mine, but at the same time, if there's a player who I tend to be a little more critical of, I'm always extra happy to see them prove me wrong (Ben Mathews is a perfect example of this).

Younger players are going to be given more slack by most people because they are still developing. TK may not have had a good game but he was playing on the Brownlow favourite for much of the time and will have learnt a huge amount. Him "escaping criticism" has nothing to do with a "patronising attitude towards the Irish", I'd suggest, but rather recognition that this time a year ago he was merely on the fringes of the Swans best team and despite his form for most of this season he is still a babe in terms of footy development.

Once players are in the 26-30 age group, what you see is what you're going to get for the rest of their career, in the main. They are therefore judged against a completely different set of criteria.

most of my frustration to warfe comes from powell not getting a go...

Warfe and Nicks are proving by the week that they aren't part of our future. I'm happy for them to prove me wrong... but by sheer form, they should have to first prove me wrong in Canberra, before getting another shot at AFL level.
