    Henry Playfair

Can anybody help me out and explain how/why he's become a recruiting priority around here?

He's from Holbrook, which is actually closer to Melbourne than Sydney - he went to Sydney to go to uni and from there played for the Rams via North Shore.

Geelong seem a bit uneasy about him - they used an early pick for Mackie last year, are looking for an established key forward this year, have preferred McCarthy (very similar player to Playfair) etc etc.

Just not sure what's prompted all the talk.

Charlie and/or penga should be able to give you an authorative answer on this matter.

Holbrook... hmm. I thought he was from Sydney.

The reason I want him is that he's speculative. That means that he'll be a relatively cheap 20 year old KPP recruit. In other words, a back up for LRT. Something we need, in my opinion. No sense putting all our eggs in one basket while we try to develop an FB.

Really, it's just me and Penga who want him... we'll see.

i was under the impression he was from sydney too, its just that how many prospective solid KP backmen do we have in our ranks? 0 - (LRT prob wont fill out too much)... i like the idea of attaining him cheaply

The kids a forward, not a defender, why people on this site are always suggesting that we try forwards down back I'll never know

if u r talking about playfair there robbie, he actually is a CHB who pushes forward as a pinch-hitting forward... at least thats how the geelong website's writeup of the vfl matches has stated anyway

He can also play Ruck. However Steve makes a good point if he is having problems getting into a poor defence, why bother with him. Anyway I was talking in general

I totally agree. If he can't get a game with Geelong then he doesn't seem to be that bright a prospect. We can't recruit a guy just because he fits the right build.

If he is delisted at seasons end lets get him and Aaron Rodgers back via our Rookie list

Rodgers (ex St George)hasn't been able to crack it at the Demons

I saw him for the first time last week in playing in a VFL game which was shown live on the ABC. He was played alternating up forward and around the ground. He has a good build, is a good height and did some impressive work up forward in particular.

From my one viewing only I would like to have him if the price was right. I wouldn't be giving away a 1st or 2nd round draft pick but would probably trade a third......provided it was established that his is fit and wasn't just having a day out on the day I saw him.

Either he's got some talent that is being slowly nurtured, in which case Geelong would definitely keep a spot open on their list for him to see how he goes.

Or Geelong took a big punt on him based on his strong marking at the U/18 Champs 2 years ago (I saw those games at OO and that was the striking thing about him), in the hope that he might develop into the marking forward they desperately need, but now aren't as optimistic and would be prepared to let him go.

If it is the latter a RL spot would be the most I'd be looking at.

I just thought the 'bring him home' aspect was being touted as one thing that made him attractive - since that isn't really right does things change?

ive read the dees board on bigfooty regarding rodgers and they reckon he is crap and soft...

We can't recruit a guy just because he fits the right build.
y not? if he is cheap, he is still young (19 or 20) with plenty of improvement in his legs at that age...

surely he would have some ties with sydney if he played with north shore (and LRT)???

a RL spot wouldnt be out of the question, how many spare spots do we have on the RL? james will be forced off the RL at year's end as well...
