I rather him in the side too, but I just don't see Roos dropping both Warfe and Nicks in the same week. Unfair I know, but if Warfe has lasted this long, Nicks will get a few more games yet.

However if Powell does get drooped I feel he'll get a chance again before the end of the season. I like the kid

Yes, he did struggle today. But if you don't get to play at the highest level under pressure you will not learn how to play under pressure, and thus will not become a better player. I saw him run though the banner, and he looked nearly physically sick with nerves. I thought this year was about giving the young pups game time to get a taste of what it is like at the highest level. Playing Queanbeyan Tigers and Ainslie will simply not do that.

I know I'll upset people. But I'd far prefer Mark Powell getting a game than Matthew Nicks at the moment. Far better for the future, especially considering a lack of height in the backline that even Roosey himself has admitted to.

I'm not sticking up for Mark Powell because I met his Mum on the bus from Melbourne airport before the Collingwood.Well...OK...I guess I am, but I still like him as a player anyway.

That's not the thrust of what Rob is saying at all. We are in general agreement over both Powell and Nicks... Rob's post was a cynical jibe at the match committee... that's all.

Nicks is finished. Overtaken by younger and better players.

Not really a jibe just my prediction, as I said its unlikely Roos would drop 2 senior players in one go, could do it over 2or3 weeks but not in one go. However it wouldn't surprise me if Mathews is still a week away, meaning only Warfe for Saddo this week and Mathews for Nicks the week after.

WE let the Eagles back into the game OURSELVES.

I think that's taking a bit away from WC - their running and crumbing players really played well in the last 25 minutes.

As soon as we started hesitating in taking our kicks I knew we were gone. Luckily the Eagles were not good enough to take advantage of things.

They were nearly good enough - just ran out of time. If the game had gone another 2-3 minutes I think we would have lost.

Lizz, you call Barry Hall our spearhead. I totally disagree that he is anything like a spearhead, especially considering that he more often than not is at CHF rather that further downfield. I've been saying from as early as the Hawthorn game that mentally he is not up to it at all. As far as I'm concerned dropping marks like he did today is indicative of a player not mentally ready to play. Or thinking about the glory of getting the goal before he has finished taking the mark.

I think that is harsh and not accurate.

On the contrary Micky O at FF has been a masterstroke by Roosey. Not only can he lead quickly, he can take an excellent high grab (he is 6'1 I think) AND do the roving and crumbing off the packs in the forward line. A perfect full forward, or was that forward pocket? Or was that forward line rover?

He's actually about 6'3". He's been played in that position before - he just happens to be playing well agains this year and has the advanatge of Hall taking the bigger defender.

Ryan O'Keefe is well worth perservering with; he is an excellent picker-upper of the footy, even under pressure.

I agree - I like the way he plays.

Still we held on. The feeling at the end of the game was of relief rather than elation.

We can agree to disagree. He is definitely our number one target, and as NMW pointed out, he almost always takes the number one opposition defender, thus opening things up for the likes of O'Loughlin.

I also strongly disagree with your comments on Barry's mental attitude. He certainly doesn't come across to me as someone who looks for the glory of scoring the goals himself. But he knows that its part of his job to do just that.

He didn't hold marks today, and certainly overhead marking isn't his strength. But normally he's reasonable on a lead with the ball out in front of him, even with an opponent close behind. And he does take marks one out sometimes. He's been far far better for us this year than his goal tally suggests. Given a choice between him and Wilson at the other end, there's little doubt as to who had the more influence. He set up a couple of goals, should have kicked at least one more himself - and that was in probably his worst game yet this season!

If Barry and Micky had traded positions today, I think Barry would have bagged the 6 (well, that's my theory). He missed a gimme on the run, but he's not the lone ranger there. I like his game - his defensive pressure has been great this year! I think he is a much better footballer this year than last.

It was much more relaxing watching the replay than the first time around. Anticipating the clangers takes away the sting. Those good starts that don't convert on the scoreboard are gut wrenching!

Not wanting to say anything good about the opposition, but how good was Sampi? I haven't watched him play before, but he was dangerous! I was wishing he was wearing red and white!

You can tell this by watching him when is playing in the reserves, he is a notch up on the others.

I like watching him up forward, he works hard off the play, which isn't recorded in the stats and doesn't show a true flection on his game.

I was also impressed with his effort in 4/4 when dropping back slightly. He really got involved, made a couple of clangers, but more so provided some push forward along the wing.
