    U/18 championships any Swans prospects?

Just wondering if there's any good prospects in this years NSW team at the Under 18 championships.

More importantly anyone the Swans can pick up with their concession pick. There's some raps on David Trotter anyone know anything about his footballing abilities, and does he live within the Swans 50 km zone?

Hopefully they'll show some of these games on fox footy.

its really hard to say anything about players without watching them, but i believe that in this draft we need to go for some beefcake KPP/ruckmen... it is time we recruited the beefcakes in the draft and not rakes that we hope will fill out... ie sadders - still only 88kg

here is a list of the players that fill this criteria (190cm +, 88kg +)

    NSW

    Sam NEVINS 16/04/1985 194 88 Bushrangers/Berrigan
    Nick BRAYBON 13/05/85 194 92 Bushrangers/Finley
    Steven GILL 06/12/1985 195 92 Weston Creek

    NT

Jai Hentschel Palmerston 2/3/85 192cm 97kg (speaking of beefcakes)
    Ross Pedersen Sthn Districts 19/10/84 196cm 96kg
    Aaron Gepp Palmerston 13/5/85 194cm 92kg

    TAS

    Brennan SAVAGE 16.1.85 193 91 Launceston
    Dean CORNISH 21.3.86 194 95 Kingston

    VIC Country

    Sam Pleming 05/08/85 191 89 Gippsland/Maffra
    Mark Blake 09/09/85 198 94 Geelong/South Barwon
    Robert Frankland 16/09/85 195 89 Gippsland/Traralgon

    VIC Met

    Andrew Ericksen 17/07/85 203 90 Sandringham/Scotch College
    Murray Boyd 02/06/85 195 91 Western/Spotswood

    QLD

    Marty Pask 2/01/85 191 88 Western Magpies
    Luke Carland 26/04/86 190 90 Broadbeach

    WA

Matthew SPENCER (Capt) 17/01/85 193 88 Swan Districts
    Brent HALL (V/Capt) 07/01/86 198 94 South Fremantle
    Kepler BRADLEY 13/11/85 198 88 West Perth
    Llane SPAANDERMAN 10/02/86 199 100 East Perth
(combo of schneiderman and spaanderman would be pretty good )

    SA

Matthew CRAGG SAPSFORD 07/03/85 196 93 Central District FC
    Clint DUBIENIECKI 06/01/85 200 90 Glenelg FC

therefore from the perspective of our needs, i think this draft could be the goods

it really makes you wonder if it is worth trading any picks away with that amount of big men available in the draft, there was still quite a number of tall rakes available as well... i realise some of them wont be eligible this year but worth listing anyway...

What concession pick? Eddie and his mates stripped us of this before the 2002 National Draft.

I thought the Swans and Brisbane still can take a local player in lieu of a second round draft pick.

Not 100% sure but I thought the AFL wanted to give Sydney & Brisbane the choice of 2 local players in lieu of 2nd & 3rd round pick plus increasing the local zone to 100km, that's what Eddie and his mates got kiboshed.

Nah - you're right in sofar as that was what the AFL was proposing. But in kiboshing the expanded proposal, the other fourteen clubs were successful in removing the original concession as well. If this had been available last year, it would have been 100% certain that Sydney would have taken McVeigh with this extra priority pick and then used their first round pick on someone like Schammer, Salopek et al.

LRT goes down as the only player to be drafted by Sydney under this concession.

The concession pick was canned last year. LRT is the only one drafted under this rule in our team. Brisbane got a (good) one as well (Charman?).

Penga. Playing in the U18 Championship doest not mean one is good enough for the seniors.

By my calculation, the cut-off date for this year will be 01/07/1986 (17 years and 6 months rule) so all the listed should be available.

I am warming to the idea of grooming LRT to be a forward-ruckman and get a good defender from the draft this year. A combo of Goodes/Doyles/LRT would be awesome with plenty of attacking power.

You're right Lizz. I never realised we lost all priority picks, I thought we took McVeigh with a normal draft because he lived outside the 50km zone.

I guess because they figured we couldn't have a salary cap and player concession. I don't think we would be that happy if the Vic clubs got access to all the best Vic talent before we had a go

i REALISE this! i was just making a point that there are some beefcakes around and we should go after one of em

                      They do (to an extent).

                      It's called the Father-Son rule.

And they still complain about it.
