I agree with you. I would love to attend especially such a special occasion. But certainly cannot afford these occasions. We miss out. Won't be on TV either because we are Collingwood. One day they will bring prices down on events. Better still maybe pick a member at random to attend free. Really think this would be a good idea.
    Love those Swans

Unfortunately my husband and I had a communication mix up and we missed out on tickets. So, I won't be able to do a write up of this function. If anyone is going and is prepared to write a story, please do so.

I expect the actual naming of the team itself to cause that much food for thought that this messageboard will go into meltdown.

Over the years, South Melbourne/Sydney has had some pretty big names play for it - no other club has won more Brownlows than ours.

The biggest talking point will undoubtedly be the full forward spot.

Bob Pratt with 681 goals in just 158 games or Lockett with 462 goals in 95 games.

What about the Wiz?? Would you put him in a forward pocket?
What about Len Mortimer? Leading goalkicker 7 times from 1906-12.

Fullback - Dunks or Tilt who both finished on 217 games.

Could be a very crowded centre line with the likes of Skilton, Kelly, Diesel, Healy, Barry Mitchell, Stevie Wright, Cresswell or trying to muscle their way in.

Will be interesting to see how many guys from the 86-87 era make it into the side. I would expect that Diesel would be one of the first players named - anyone who saw one of his 40 metre handballs or 40+ possession games would concur.

But what about guys like David Murphy, David Bolton, Bernard Toohey, Tony Morwood, Mark Browning, Dennis Carroll??

Could Roosy edge himself in at halfback?

What about the current side - Magic? Goodes?

And the coach............Could it be Rocket? Does anyone know if Rocket will actually be there? Has all bad blood gone or some exists?

Not the easiest job for the selectors of this dream team.

After that, we can have some fun and pick our 'Vincibles'.
Will Sangster, Darren Ogier, Dean McRae, Richard Ambrose, John Hutton, Dermott Brereton, Fred Campbell..........

No question that Pratt will be named Full Forward and Lockett will make the bench. Capper has no chance of making the starting 18, and little chance of a bench spot. Mortimer could sneak a bench spot.

Full back - Dunks or Tilt who both finished on 217 games.
Dunks will be lucky to get a starting spot, should be named on the bench however. Its between Carter and Goldsmith for Fullback.

Could be a very crowded centre line with the likes of Skilton, Kelly, Diesel, Healy, Barry Mitchell, Stevie Wright, Cresswell or trying to muscle their way in.
Skilton, Kelly, Williams will all get starting spots, Healy should get a bench spot and Mitchell, Wright and Cresswell are really fighting out for one spot on the bench

But what about guys like David Murphy, David Bolton, Bernard Toohey, Tony Morwood, Mark Browning, Dennis Carroll??
Of that lot, Morwood, Browning and Carroll are the likely ones to make the starting team and should get a bench postion at worse, the others little chance.

Could Roosy edge himself in at halfback?
In a word - NO. Not around for long enough to beat out Carroll Glegg and Rantall for a half back spot and unlikely to make the bench ahead of other defenders.

What about the current side - Magic? Goodes?
Goodes has no hope what-so-ever as he wasn't nominated. Magic shouldn't be in the side on merit, but could steal a spot if the team is loaded with "Sydney" Swans as the fear is it will be.

And the coach............Could it be Rocket? Does anyone know if Rocket will actually be there? Has all bad blood gone or some exists?
The coach won't be Eade because of the fact he is up against coaches that won us premierships and they are the more likely to get the job, heck I would rate Big Ron over Eade.

I fear it might be the case and so do alot of my family and friends mainly because people will remember the "Sydney" based players more than the "South" based players because of time. I highly doubt that it would be a politial move, more a judgement called based on what a person has seen.

This is mainly on line ball decisions such as Dunks vs Carter vs Goldsmith, not the sure things such as Skilton and Kelly would be

As far as I see... these are the certainties to be somewhere in the side:

                    Kelly
                    Skilton
                    Bedford
                    Rantall
                    Pratt
                    Lockett
                    Nash
                    Mathews
                    Williams
                    Healy
                    Round

The rest are competing for the other spots.

Rantall - marginal - especially seeing as he has disgraced himself in recent years.

Surely Laurie Nash, Herb Mathews, Ron Clegg, Fred Goldsmith would be walk up starts.

Austin Robertson senior was certainly a player with a big reputation.

Can't see Trevor Mustey getting a gig.

How has he disgraced himself, I haven't heard a thing???? Anyway as he is our games record holder he is a sure thing without a doubt.

Nash should get CHF, Matthews will get a spot, Clegg should be on the bench at least, but I feel he will be CHB. Goldsmith, is fighting out the fullback spot with Dunks and Carter, but should get a spot anyhow.

Will be lucky to get a starting spot, but will be on the bench - I have rated him highly myself.

Are there going to be two teams announced-one as THE best Swans team, and one as the best team since we moved.

That would be fair I think.

On that basis you'd have to make one that is exclusively South as well. I see no reason for that... Plenty of teams have been around as long as we have, but they haven't done modern teams. Why should we?
