Sydney has a tough run home apart from Carlton match next week. They've got Freo, Adelaide, Brisbane, Collingwood all in the top 8 and Hawthorn a competitive side. Melbourne @ MCG is not a freebie either. In such a tight competition they must win against Carlton.

I'm quietly hoping for a 15-7 finish to the year, which would probably get us into the top 4.

Brissy and the collywobbles won't be caught napping again and the games against Adelaide, Freo and the Hawks won't be a push over either....

I think that these game will be a good preamble to the finals.

We only need to win a few to get a good position.

I am hopeful of a good return on these games

If we are not good enough to win a good proportion of the remaining games we aren't going anywhere in the finals anyway. Speaking for myself I don't want to see us limp into the finals again and bomb out in the first round.

The coming 4 or 5 weeks will tell us whether we belong in the 8 and whether we are just making up the numbers.

Carlton should be a cakewalk. Freo aren't travelling that well interstate. Melbourne will be playing for pride, but its definitely winnable. We play Hawthorn AFTER they've been to Perth to play Freo. The other three games concern me (with the slight exception of Collingwood), but I reckon it won't impact on a finals appearance.

Gunn has got it right, we need to perform against these teams in the regular season no wait until the finals. For example, it has got to be a great psychological edge to beat Adelaide at home ( a big ask I know but it can be done) just a month before playing them in the finals.

IMHO, this is not the biggest problem. It si important how the players mentaly recover after a lost game. At the beginnning of the season it was obvious that they were on the verge of that mental slump that threatens their season as some in the Melbourne media predicted. They recovered also well after the losses to Roos and Power, which is a very good sign. They are physicaly very capable to win all this games as long as they're WILLING to win. Any drop in their intensity and faililng to recover afterwards will ring dead knells for the @@@@**.
Every game that's winable on the paper from now it has to be won! It is important to keep pressure on our opponenets if we play them later on in September, whether or not you utter that "F" word or not.

Even though we most likely only have to win two or three games for the rest of the season to make the finals, it would be great to see Sydney win against as many finals contenders as possible. The mental edge would hopefully be quite handy and we wouldn't bum out in the first week of the finals.
