This current debate is bordering on the comical and has been discussed all before.

SYDNEY does not set the draw, the AFL does!

If it makes everybody happy we can request all our away games to be played in Melbourne next year, but that still will mean only a minimum of 5 and maximum of 7 games here next year.

It is no use comparing the amount of games Brisbane get in Melbourne, becuase they had a 10 year agreement with the AFL at the time of their merger with Fitzroy to play a minimum of games in Melbourne ( I think it was 8, but are only getting 7).This was part the bribe to have the Fitzroy board sign off on the meger with Brisbane rather than the Roos.


Let's all hope we get 7 next year, but I think the bigger issue for Melbourne members and supporters is finding a permanent home for aftermatches and to watch them play on the TV when home with other supporters. The club tried this at the Albert Park Hotel and unfortunately for various reasons it did not work out.

If you are finding it difficult to source real facts that back up your arguments then don't resort to personal attacks (very much a trait of the less affluent to be honest). I don't appreciate your condescending comments and as for pushing a barrow, the only people I see pushing a barrow on this board are fans with an agenda such as SSI or currently, dissatisfied Melbourne based fans.

You said in your post that the Swans get all the Melbourne based Membership fees - and this historically pleased you as home clubs (i.e Collingwood) get the total gate receipts. What I was asking was very simple. I find it amazing that the swans could technically sell thousands of tickets to the 5 Melbourne based Club games and the home club would not get any money until AFL equalisation takes place??

I agree with you on that one Charlie, but it still does not take away the fact that Melbourne members continue to whine about the amount of matches we have here in Melbourne (and before everybody goes nuts about that line I am one of the Melbourne members).

The club has asked for 7, but it is not the club that sets the draw.

We need to accept the fact that it will probably be 5, 6 or possibly 7 games a year and get on with trying to get the club to realise that building a permanent base so people can go week in week out to watch the boys play together will help with building the membership base in Melbourne.

I was at Bells on Saturday night, and LOVED it. It was so much better than a Sydney-based after-match, because it was so simple. No Celebrity Head, no silly games, just everyone wanting to see the players. And Tony Morwood up on stage.

Interestingly unlike in Sydney, the players seemed VERY happy to stay and mingle with the faithful. Posters were handed out for players to sign, and everyone had a grand old time.

Not wanting to upset you at all Troy, but do you think you could have a chat to the players and honestly ask them why they seem as though they can't get out of Sydney-based after-matches quickly enough. Do they think we are idiots because of all the singing and games up on stage etc? Seriously mate, I think you should have a word with them. Even Gemma noticed how different the way the players were acting.

Once again they avoided clapping the Cheer Squad too. This has become normal in Sydney. But they went to the members on a flank rather than to us even in Melbourne. Hmmmm.

The Bell Hotel has to become our Melbourne pub, not only is it in God's own country, but it has room for all us loyal Swans fans down here, but from the look of it and nice little bistro. Maybe we should get in contact with the club down here to get it.

It WAS a bit small. I'd like something larger, but it was certainly more fun than the sterile Albert By The Lake environment... NO TABLES FOR THE PLAYERS... it was fantastic, it felt more personal than just handing something to the nearest player and asking them to pass it down the table... you actually had to go up to the player and say hello. It was good. Also, it felt like there were more people because it was more crowded.

The players themselves seemed to enjoy it... having a chat to people, instead of just sitting at a table like some sort of movie star, seemed to have them in a good mood.

Definitely hard to want to buy another membership with so few home games. That said South would be dead and buried without moving north so is basically a Sydney entity now. As for the equalisation money, we gain a lot more from clubs like Essendon and Collingwood than they are likely to gain from us so not a concern. The AFL statistics on that would bear my argument out, that's why Eddie and other presidents of big Melbourne clubs are so vocal on this issue.

What you asked was simple. The answer I gave was so clear even a two year old could understand it. ....but not you it seems. I told you what the situation is. Whether you find it amazing is a problem for you....not me.

My membership was over $100 - can't remember the exact figure because I paid extra for two games in Sydney and seats in the Cheer Squad.
NOTE that Membership DOES NOT GET YOU A SEAT AT ALL if you get to a game late (example Optus Oval) you have to pay extra to get in if all General Admittance has gone, a membership won't even get you in the gate if you arrive late!
At Colonial Stadium, membership will only get you a seat on the top level.
Cheer Squad membership is $20 for Children (of any age) this is because our club has to pay Colonial Stadium for seats for the Cheer Squad, where in Sydney the kids only pay about $5 (I think)

Thank you Cher. Much clearer, ok no real matchday guarantees associated with a Melbourne membership. I found it difficult to understand how the swans could technically offer thousands of melb memberships with the Melbourne based host missing out.

As for Gunn, how about you actually back your statement up?? how do you know that Melbourne memberships are delivering a financial boon to the club? (not saying they aren't mind you). Alos, you might want to stop carrying on about my intellect, I can't say that I have read anything you have written on this board that has convinced me you are in a position to judge.

I only got a season ticket this year. I think it was ~$80, so about the same as 5 GA tickets, but the money goes to our club. There are no perks though with the season ticket. To get the perks, you have to buy the Vic Membership, which I think was ~$100. I don't go to aftermatches, etc. so I didn't bother. I will probably continue to buy season tickets, if they stay around the GA cost for however many Melb games we have that year, so that the Swans get my cash, rather than one of the whinging Vic clubs.

The problem with just buying the standard seasons ticket is that you can not get a Grand Final ticket!
