    Jude Bolton's disposal

Jude is having the best season of his career, but his disposal sometimes is absolutely disgraceful. A prime example, was on the weekend when he was running into an open goal, Cressa gave him a perfect sheppard, he was under no-pressure, but he missed the lot.

If he is going to become one of the elite midfielders in the competition, he has to work on that side of his game, because he simply wastes too much of the footy.

On the contrary P46 - The disposal part of his game has improved 10 fold. The instance you are talking about was a one off.
Even the best in the competition are guilty of missing similiar shots.
I agree though that his disposal is obviously not in the top range yet but he is getting there very fast. One of the reasons he is having the best season of his career is that he has become more effective with his possesions while also getting more of it and becoming a goal kicker.

Jude's disposal has improved so much this season that that comment seems a bit harsh. Sure, he muffed that one but it looked like it came off the side of his boot. Happens to all players occasionally.

Shouldn't we be congratulating him for stringing together so many consistent performances, his hard work around the packs, the number of smothers he has made this season, the way he continually throws his body around and increasingly comes up with with the pill, his incessant hard running etc etc, rather than complaining when he makes one error that, in the overall scheme of things, was hardly critical?

          Cheer Cheer,

I'm not bagging him, but I can recall about 4 or 5 times, where he just kicked the ball to a pack situation, and hoped that someone would mark it, without really looking before he kicked. I also remember a handball late in the last quarter that missed the mark, and a kick that hit a Carlton opponent lace-out on the chest.

He's having a great year, just needs to improve in that area of his game.

I reckon this is one area that JB could definitely improve in. Having said that, his disposals have gotten a lot better, and that is the reason for the improvement in his overall game, if that makes sense.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Agree with most sentiments here that while he still has plenty of room for improvement in his skills, they are of FAR higher standard than this time last year.

Just one thing to keep in mind: One P Kelly was NEVER lauded for having the silkiest skills in the game.

He will never be a great kick but at least he gets the ball.

He's topping Sydney's disposals reaching 300 before the weekend.

As one of Jude's harshest judges in recent years I am very pleased with the progress he is making this year. Some of his disposal is still errant, then again so is Cressa's. However, more importantly his other disposals are becoming more useful and creative, rather then being simple and having little effect. He is much better at getting the ball out of packs and thinks about the game much more, hence reading the ball better. He still makes plenty of mistakes, such as too often dragging the ball under for a holding the ball, but I like his progress (finally) and hope for (and expect) more improvement.

When it is all said and done - he is the closest thing we have to replacing the irreplaceable PK

I reckon his kicking is better than Kels, but he is nowhere near as strong in the air.

Kelly was one of the best marks I've seen for a guy of his size.

But Jude will do me any day.
