This week, Cressa plays his 237th game which ties with Bob Skilton as fifth most for South Melbourne/Sydney.

Great achievement for the guy from North Hobart who we took as the 39th pick in the 1992 Mid-season draft.

His best and fairest record speaks for itself; 1 win, 4 2nds, 2 3rd's and he gained all Australian selection in 1997.

I could not think of a more consistent and loyal servant for our club who has bobbed up with some memorable moments.

None more than his two massive goals in the finals series of 1996.
*The mark in the goal square against Hawthorn
*His boomerang shot for goal against Essendon which was missing to the left by some way before it miraculously came back

Other highlights -

*His putting back of his knee-cap down at the Cattery
*His goal after the siren against North last year

The joker of the club and one who will surely be missed.

Team wants Cresswell to stay

Sydney forward Michael O'Loughlin wants long-serving teammate Daryn Cresswell to reconsider his retirement decision and play on for one or two more AFL seasons.

Midfielder Cresswell, who this weekend moves alongside the legendary Bob Skilton on 237 appearances announced before the season it would be his last.

Despite calf injuries that have limited him to 11 matches, the 32-year-old is averaging 21 possessions a game and regularly appears among the team's best players.

This week, Cresswell said he might rethink his decision if the second-placed Swans went close to winning the flag or performed in the finals.

2 years might be asking too much, seeing that Cressa's trying to decide whether or not to play next year alone. Anyway, Good on ya Cressa, a true legend of the club.

I loved watching Cressa kick those goals last week with his head bandaged up. To me it typified Cressa, homour and class all rolled into one.

It's funny in his twilight years how he has become more of a reliable shot at goal than any other time in his career. I think his 1996 return was something like 9 goals, 24 behinds. This year the return so far is 12 goals, 2 behinds.

I agree that Cressa is one of our best week in and out and we should let him play as long as his body, desire ability lets him.

If we can entice him to continue playing all well and good - A mid year retirment could give options either way - If he is going ok keep going or if the team need to make room for younger players - retire

Bit like what Scwatta did - play till it was time and there was no chance of going to the GF or suitable heights to leave.

I agree with Rod and CC. Only question is: does he count as a veteran? Can we keep him going and add a young bloke to the squad? It'd be nice to have the best of both worlds.

Cressa you CHAMP

Cressa, the man. He has been there at the Swans through a lot of highs and lows and has had, what I consider to be, an excellent career. Always getting that tough midfield ball and although he didn't always finish it off with great disposal, he was always in there working his guts out.
