Gary Lyon on Melb footy show

Got home late last night and switched on to the Eddie and Sam show to hear Lyon descibe the Swans as "very underated" and a "grand final chance"! (much to the dismay of Sam Newman who kept saying that he should be tipping Freo this weekend because the show was being done in WA last night - moron).

At least someone's taking notice! Good on ya Gazza.

CC, haven't u ever heard of differentiating between the character and the man who plays him? Seriously, if everyone thought like you, they'd think billy brownless was a cavewoman with body hair like that!

I remember a long long time ago, in a losing streak far far away.....

When the Swans were at the bottom of the ladder for a few years and we played Melburne at the MCG.
Being a die hard fan I went fully expecting a big loss, and in an astounding effort we got up and kicked some Demon ass.

As soon as I got home I watched the replay and they interviewed Mr. Lyon after the game.

His comment?
"We played down to their level today"
It seems stupid now, but back then I took huge personal offense at him trying to make it a Melbourne loss rather than a Swans win and it took me up until a couple of years ago to get over it.

His comments are generally insightful I find now though.

Norris Lurker & I were at that game. In the 3rd quarter, which the Swans kicked 10 4 64 to 0 1 1, the then rotund Teal & I were exchanging "What the ****s?"

Gary Lyon is always worth listening to in my books. He has a balance I don't find in a lot of other commentators - CW for instance. And he's more interested in the game than the politics.

I like Gazza...and now I like him even more.

It's funny how a guy just saying something encouraging about your club can get you to like them hey? As for that Sam Newman, he is just a knob. I have been watching the footy show for years and don't think that I have seen him be serious for even 1 micro-second. He is just there because he loves to think that everybody in the football world loves and adores him so much because he is such a funny guy...little does he know all we are laughing at is his botched face-lift!

Getting back to Gazza though, he is spot on! No matter how much you try and denigrate our season to nothing more than a fluke, we ARE second on the ladder and playing good footy!
