    Adam Schneider auction

When the Sydney Swans took to the SCG on Sunday, Adam Schneider knew his team needed a victory against Fremantle to continue its roll towards a possible top four position.

The 19-year-old didn?t need extra incentive to perform strongly but he had it, given he was auctioning off his uniform - guernsey, shorts, socks and boots ? from the game to help his best friend John Jacobsen?s parents as they deal with his death one month ago.

It was mission accomplished as Sydney walked away with a 14-point win, and the goalsneak played a key part tormenting the Dockers with strong tackles causing turnovers which led to goals, while kicking two himself - the second midway through the final term giving Sydney the lead it never relinquished.

?I was happy with the little stuff I did like I didn?t get a lot of the ball again but my aim was to just make a lot of tackles and lot of chases and put a bit pressure in there and it was OK in the end,? Schneider said.

Down by eight points at the final break, after being outscored by 25 points in the third term, coach Paul Roos reminded his players ?pretty loudly? what made the team successful ? playing as a team not as individuals.

?He said it was a challenge for us just to see how good a team we actually were and whether we could stand up to the challenge or whether we would just lay over and die, fortunately we were good enough to get up for the challenge,? Roos said.

Roos agrees the youngster has become an important member of the team playing all home-and-away matches in his debut year, kicking 24 goals so far, while being a difficult player for the opposition.

?Schneids has been very good all year and (against Fremantle) he was really, really important and he is a difficult match-up,? Roos said.

?I don?t think teams rate his pace and he?s quick, he is very quick.

?He is still young and he is not super fit ? we only played him 90 minutes but he was really critical at different times and he has become quite an important player for us.?

But while the Swans receive the accolades for their second position on the ladder, the round five National AFL Rising Star nominee?s heart was with John - who died in a car crash on his way back from a 21st birthday party - and his parents who had lost their only child at 19 years of age.

?Before the game I had a few thoughts, it sunk back into me a bit and I thought yeah I really want to get a win for him for this game because it?s pretty special one,? the NSW/ACT under 18 representative said.

?I think it?s important to just try and give them a bit of help as anything possible to just help them out back home because they really are struggling and it?s a tragic thing for them and hopefully it can just make them a little bit more happier I guess.?

The auction of his signed playing gear started on Monday, 28 July, and runs for ten days with all proceeds going to the Jacobsen family.

Nothing like filling in the gaps for opposition coaches lol
