Crows: Mission Possible

We go into the game as underdogs even though we are higher on the ladder.

Hopefully the players will have no problem adjusting to this new role after being the favourites for the last four weeks.

We did ok against the Power in a wet game and might have even pinched it if we had kicked straighter. (Good to see against Freo that we were 17.9 and had one less scoring shot than them)

The game we won against the Crows at Football Park in 2001 came about due to Jason Ball having his than best-ever game for us. After we kicked a solitary behind in the first quarter, the side managed to pile on 8.1 in the second. Hopefully we can maintain our free flowing style of footy on Sunday and get the better of them to complete what would be a famous victory.

Have to give Rocket some credit for that win too. That day he was switching and rotating the players that often that the Crows had no idea who they were matching up on.
We have a 4-6 record at the venue so by no means is it Mission Impossible for us.

If we do win, we create a two game gap over the Crows with just four games remaining. With the Crows having to play both Collingwood and Eagles away and then the Power in Round 22, a loss here could possibly leave them with just 12 wins for the season. We on the other hand would already have 13.

They also killed us in tap outs that day and outmarked us. I'd note also that Frosty was our third-highest possession winner that day!!

I reckon we are in with a great shot...we are playing some pretty good footy at the moment and although it hasn't been great over the past few weeks, we have still been winning. All the boys have to do is get over the ferality of those dirty, stinking Adelaide supporters and get out there and play some footy!

We're in with a sniff, if Kirk (comps top tackler) can kill off Riccuto (arguably the best break of tackles in the comp) and Goodes can be affective over the ground. But Adam will be worn like a glove by Biglands, who will be hard to shrugg off. Cressa will be effective in the midle and Willo will have to run off HB. THeir tall marking forwards will tear us up if we cant successfuly block and run off with quick disposals at of the back line. To be effective we need to shut down Mcleod and co and get the ball to ground when in our defence

It looks as though neither Welsh nor Stevens is going to be available for the Crows, so they are going to have to rely on Carey and Perrie to kick the goals, along with smaller players on rotation and maybe a resting ruckman.

Biglands and Clarke aren't much cop in the forward line, and we have a wealth of medium size defenders to play on Ricciuto, Johncock etc. Saddington is tailor-made for Perrie, but I wish we had Dunkley for Carey.

Adelaide will kill us at the stoppages, and McLeod will get plenty of possessions. But that happens every week, and the Crows still get beaten. So I think if we play our best game of fast rebounding and running in waves, and if we kick straight, we can still win this.

The joker in the pack is Brett Burton. He always plays well against the Swans, and is as difficult as Goodes to match up on.

Losing Welsh is a huge blow, saw him tear Essendon apart a few weeks back. Free's up comeone like Leo to go full time on Burton.

Carey's gone a bit like Hall in that his aerial work is not a patch on what it was but it's his ground work in setting up goals that has kept him effective. This is where we'll need to cover him, and the Crows midfield that's been feeding off him.

Can Sydney beat Adelaide? Of course.

Anything can happen.
My tip is Sydney (of course) and Adam Goodes will be our shing star.....

I've got an uneasy feeling as I did going into the Kangaroos game. Hopefully I'm wrong but IMO we were pretty flat last week.

Rocket was spot on in his article - Leo and Tadhg are going to get worked over from here on in. Last week Freo put a lot of pressure on our midfield, and Barry and Kennelly looked lost running from defence without free players ahead presenting an easy option.

Probably the other thing oppositon sides will do is have both players' opponents play out of the square as often as possible to take them out of the game.

Maybe this week is a good chance to try a few different things with Mieklejohn/LRT and maybe even James if he's ready.

Same - will be interesting to see where the team is at when there is a lot of pressure (like finals) and the players are taken out of their normal routines.

Fortunately I don't really expect us to win this (although of course I am hopeful) so I'm not too worried about the outcome, as long as it's not a shocker and there are no more injuries.
