    twilight football sunday night

Apparently the AFL is planning twilight games on Sunday nights next year to boost crowds

I dont like the idea myself ; Saturday night is fine - you can sleep uin on Sunday . But by Sunday night people are gearing up again for the next week of work or school . So I cant see this being a winner particularly for familes with children .

(Didnt the NRL try this a few years ago and it was a fizzer)

If they have twilight games at the SCG, I may well be screwed. Depends if I'm working then or not. They may only do these at Squark Park or in the west. We shall have to wait and see.

Twilight footy on Sunday...that's not right

I don't think that Twilight footy on a Sunday will work. By that time I am already well into "oh dear god I have five more days until the weekend" mode as I am sure many other people are. I reckon that more Saturday games are the go. Saturday is the best time for footy...can't the AFL see that?

I would think that Squark Park was AAMI Stadium?

Definitely not a good idea, they might as well have a game during the day on mondays.
Using hypothesis testing via confidence intervals:
Nick Davis mark inside 50 = goal

I understand the plan is to have 5 matches next season starting 5.10pm Melbourne time - with Telstra Dome hosting 2 of them - 1 on Easter Sunday and 1 on Mothers Day, so that they allow people in Melbourne to attend church/family lunch and then go onto the footy. Of the 3 remaining 1 will be in Adelaide (Crows home match) backing onto a public holiday such as the Queen's Birthday. The other 2 will be played in Perth starting 3.10pm Perth Time.

I haven't got a problem with this set up, but if it was to become a regular thing I would be against it.

I wouldn't go to the Sunday night game because it is at that time that I am preparing myself for the next five days before the next weekend. I love any Saturday game because it gives me the opportunity to catch up with work or sleep in on the Sunday.

I would like to see it trialled for 1 match in Sydney, purely as an experiment

For example, would this not be a good idea on say Mother's Day, or on a long weekend

Our 1.10 time is not popular, but can't be changed.

Give it a go I say.

Twilight games on Saturday would be the go. That way you could go out for dinner after the game and/or not have to decline other Saturday night events.

I'm not sure about teh footy habits in Sydney, but twilight games on Saturdays were very unpopular in Melbourne. Maybe people here really want to go out the same evening but not in the same outfit they were wearing when watching the game.
To be quite honest I don't even remember what was the real reason for stopping those games.

My concern when reading this was getting the kids up the next day for school. If it was arranged to coincide with a Public Holiday or even School holidays, it may not be so bad.

Having said that, I'd still go, no matter how much I disliked the idea.

                          twilight match

we played a twilight match in sydney early 1995 , v geelong, lockett was out injured, luff kicked 6 goals ,geelong beat us by 5pts. we obviously weren't drawing big crowds then so it wasn't a big point of discussion.
i actually thought it was a great experiment and would have loved the afl to play more of these twilight games

AFL website poll indicated that 40 % of people would not go and 37% would go "only if it was my team".

I like to watch a replay after each home game , as does my son.
Can do this after a Saturday game , but it's not a good idea on
                            a Sunday.
It's nice to unwind after the game , not turn one's thoughts immedaitely to preparing for Monday.

Seems Fox would get the coverage - more money for Rupert the ex-Aussie.

Anyway it probably will not happen because Andy Dem says he will "look after ordinary fans".
Well Andy they don't come much more ordinary than me , so don't proceed with this idea.

Over here people are spewing that the Crows and Port are playing at the same time (give or take an hour or so).

I think they should only have the Crows' match times changed. They have a huge supporter base. Port have had their game times changed to Saturdays (shopping day at the mall across the road). And crowds have suffered.

But Demetriou/Jacko, how hard is it for the AFL to organise a draw where Port & the Crows are not playing on the same day. There ARE 3 days in a weekend you know mate!
