Kirky and the All Australian debate

Look there are 3 articles on the Herald Sun site tonight about this issue.

I personally think that if your job is to negate the influence of a gun midfielder and you can do this job whilst racking a load of possession and even kicking goals, why are you any less a player than the tagee?

Gee, if this were the case we would have an All Aussie side minus key defenders because their job is to negate the influence of forwards isn't it?

I was super impressed with Josh Carr's game and then Kisky's last weekend. I was at the game and though Bell wasn't even playing...I love that kind of effective work.

The final matter. Both Kirky and Crouchy do it without making themselves unpopular, unlike Libba and Brodie Holland.

We don't have the Fab Four in the midfield so we need to neutralise the midfield battle somewhat, it is just something we can't get away without.

Am I missing the point? Thoughts?

You are spot on TheHood. Even though there has been a little bit of a debate RE the so called 'taggers' over the recent years due mainly to the tactics of one Tony Liberatore under the instruction of Terry Wallace, they are still a big part of our game. Midfielders are still most definitely the most important players in a game. If there happens to be a player who negates their impact for a living I am all for it. And if they do it bloody well, who is to say that they are not just as much of a match-winner as the midfielder who racks up 25 odd possessions and kicks a goal.

Kirky, however, is another case entirely to the 'tagger' mentioned above. Not only does he perform the duties listed above (in an entirely fair manner) but he also manages to rack up possessions and kick goals himself. He is a very talented player having an awesome season, so why shouldn't he be selected in the All Aussie team? GO Kirky...keep it up dude.
    Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!
