    James for Nicks

    Thats my hope anyway.
I don't think that it would hurt nicksy getting a run in the seconds, and if heath finds form in the firsts it would make us a lot more versatile in the back line !

Nicks was OK off the bench last week. A bit of pressure from the young guys for a spot in the firsts will certainly keep me on his toes...

I don't know how anyone can make a judgement that James is better than Nicks as an AFL player.

James has never proven himself at senior level, and although we are all hoping he does, it is ridiculous to be calling for him to replace such and such.

Should James play senior football in the next 12 months, and prove to be an absolute dud, what will you be saying then?
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

People, I wish you wouldn't go ahead of yourselves with such statements. James will need some time to get used to a senior level of footy before we can talk about replacing any experienced players, especially Nicks. So, let's keep things in perspective and celebrate James's inspirational return and keeping cool heads at the same time.

hang on but haven't we been doing that all year with the things like "Drop warfe/nicks/whoever we feels needs a right good butt kicking at the time and put <insert player> in instead" despite having seen little or nothing of said player? For mine, this is exactly the same thing - someone has identified a player they believe to be weak and a player they would like to see replace him and the grounds for disagreement are that the "Replacement" hasn't seen senior action for 2yrs+ and is our miracle story. Was anyone seriously questioning the decision to elevate Meiklejohn and throw him into seniors earlier this year, or ricky mott last year? Essentially everyone's going to continue saying "hold your horses" on Heath forever unless he does get some good senior time and that's unfair on him because people will want to focus on his "miracle return" or his "potential for injury" or something, rather than on him as any other footballer who deserves the chance he's going to be given.

I want Heath to play as much as anyone. I've been following his return closely, for the past few years after each injury.

Given who we're playing on the weekend and that Heath has only played a handfull of games this year, it might be a good idea to be practicle and not get ahead of ourselves. If he is picked as an emergency replacement I'll be cheering for him as loudly as the next person, but realistically a fully fit Nicks, with his game time and experience will probably come before Heath, even though he is a truly inspirational and tenatious individual.

Nicks would have to be a fair chance to be dropped.

We need four on the bench
                1) LRT
                2) Schneider

No arguments from anyone, I'm sure.

Then, on form, 90% here would rate O'Keefe ahead of Nicks, which means that if Nicks is to keep his place then either Roosy goes in with only one back-up ruck or James is called up and not played.

Personally, I reckon James will play and Nicks will be dropped.

                3) O'Keefe
                4) James

The SMH article on James stated he had been named as an emergency, so he won't be playing unless some late withdrawals occur.

And then Fixter and Doyle put their hands up and we need to drop who...........

IMO I think their good and would be walk up starters

while i agree with you, i believe that this would be the case with doyle but when fixter overcame his injury earlier in the year, he had to come back through the ressies and that is where did his hamstring, doyle would be a walkup but fixter to come through ressies

I totally agree that a couple of games in the reserves would do both more good than harm... Doyle would need to prove that he can still mark and kick before he was a walk up start.

However he won't get any smaller, so he would take a tall oposition player deep into the back line. And allow Goodesy to run around all over the place. (Put a small defender on him and he could kick a bag full or Barry will....)

Fixter would need to regain at least 70% of last years form to be considered for senior selection - one of our best last year. This would take 2-3 games in the seconds. It appears that he might get a game this week as he has been taken of the injured list??

Then who would know as the weeks change by the day???

                              umm folks

I thought we needed a RUCKMAN!!

James has always been put forward as a FB.

If he makes it, well done.

But we still need to replace Jason Ball. I would prefer Mickeljon.
