LRT to ruck from now on?

Do we now use LRT as Ball was used with Goodes as a rotating pair?

If he continues today's form I would have no problem with it.

He wasn't that great today - fresh legs at the end of a tough day had a lot to do with his impact IMO.

... but yes, he is our only option until Doyle comes back (if Doyle does come back).

I think he showed that he can certainly provide a contest, and is a good mark. Should be rotated through the ruck.

From here on in, we're unlikely to have the best ruckman on the park, so we'll have to hope our guys provide a contest and leave it up to the rovers.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

He is definitely not at the stage where you can toss him into the ruck for long periods, but he did show today that if you need to give someone a rest for 10-15 mintues, he can definitely provide a contest at the stoppages, and also provide an option around the ground. Once his foot skills improve, he will become an even more valuable option for us.

Didn't he ruck the whole second half?

The ABC radio commentary team ( including ex Crow Premiership player Rod Jamieson ) were full of praise for LRT suggesting that he is a real find and a player with a very big future. The other player that Jamieson gave a glowing review is Adam Schneider. He said that Schneider is a special talent with a great future.

Jamieson also said that LRT brought us back into the game and every time Schneider is on the field the Swans look dangerous.

Must admit I haven't been a big LRT fan, but I thought today he took a big step forward.

His performance was very competitive when the chips were down, and the way he handled Biglands in particular was impressive. He's obviously got a big future.

As it turned out, I think that if LRT had been thrown into the fray earlier, we might just have pinched the game.

Goodes was getting slaughtered, so LRT made a huge difference.

The thing we missed about Ball today was that he can provide a target up forward, and is a good kick for goal.

LRT is better at hanging around the centre providing an option, or staying a kick behind play.

I think we need to adjust our style a little bit for this. Rest Goodes in the forward line more often could be an option, to give us that extra target.

Couple more years, LRT + Doyle + Goodes would be the best forward+ruckman combo in the business. We could swing any of them forward or to the ruck. An awesome combination.

LRT read the play extremely weel in the last quarter, and I don't recall a bad kick from him today. Maybe this lack of kicking ability is a myth.

I rate this bloke very highly. He is very cool under pressure, tackles really hard, has great second efforts from ruck contests and has good vision for the handball off.

Someone said in another post that he relies on others too much for his disposals. Well der, the Brownlow Medal ruckmen like Dempsey and Wynd won their Brownlows because they were very adept at bringing smaller players into the game, with quick handpasses from marks to players running by.

He hardly wastes a disposal and has quick hands. The more time LRT gets on the ball the sooner he will become the star that I predict he will be.

If he plays for the rest of season like he did today, we have to now be a genuine flag chance rather than a "roughie" as most people see us.

No surprise that LRT went well - he's a talent, even if he is raw. And his kicking wasn't so bad either. If we can't have Ball I'm happy with LRT, with the difference that he can be rested in defence instead of up forward.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'm not sure where this "poor disposal" thing has come from. I agree he doesn't look good kicking for goal, but its more a stuttering approach than the kick itself. And today his disposal was more than reasonable. He looked to hand off when he could but when he had to kick long he did so competently.

His marking and tackling were the highlights though. Having players who can take contested marks around the ground is pretty important and something we're light on for, especially now that Ball's gone for the year. If LRT can help us out in that respect he could be a pretty important player for the rest of the season.
