Why Roosey?

In hindsight, it would be easy to say he should have done this, should have done that etc. And still we could have won the game. He will learn as he will learn from every game he coaches, but not Roosy's fault.

I understand all that but surely its time to abandon the rebuilding side of things to some degree, I mean we can win the flag.

Time to get the best side possible on the park.

Yes I was a little surprised at Bolton and Davis getting a bit too much bench time.

Still , the result may force Ross to focus on our deficiencies.
Moving the ball out of defence from a kick-in is a definite weakness .
Conversely , we let the Crows do it with relative ease.

2 obvoius weaknesses for mine.

Centre breaks and leeting the ball out of our forward line too easily.

A bit more hard running to contests by our forwards and hard chasing will put more pressure on opposing backs and force more turnovers.

This has been something I think has been a bit of an issue during the year.

We should all be very proud of the team...they have performed well above expectations for most of the year, and today they were sterling in defeat today.
I don't know what it is with adelaide, but we seem to often give them a good start to be left to play catch up football all day. I think as much as I wanted the swans to win, adelaide would have been pretty stiff to lhave lost that game. Personally I don't know why Goodes didn't look for someone rather than go for more distance and drag the shot...surely the bench/box must have some idea of how very little time was left, couldnt they get a message to the field..get everybody with any marking potential into the goalsquare...may as well have a go and fail...so what if it hadnt worked...losing by 10, if adelaide had cleared the ball and managed to go the length of the ground, is no more a loss than losing by 4...
I suggest we all refocus on what this year is supposed to be all about....giving the youngsters some good game time, and not get too carried away by the success we have had... Roosie is endeavouring to build a team that over the next few years will be in a position to have a real crack at it... AND that's not to say though that we shouldn't take and be grateful for any success that we may have in the meantime...
Time will tell.

It's easy to criticise players being off the ground from the outer (or the sofa) but Roos must have a good idea of the fitness of his players. Maybe he'd rather have them all running flat out for 3/4 of the game than at sub-pace for more of the game because they are spent. And remember FP is a much bigger ground than the SCG.

I must admit I was willing him to put Schneider on late in the game when we were really fighting it out, but he and Maxfield had been involved in a heavy clash not long before and I reckon they both needed some time to recover.

I agree to some extent Plugger46. But I don't think that anybody would have known how well LRT would do in the ruck, and at this stage we don't know whether he could ruck out a full game. He obviously has excellent natural ruck skills.

What struck me was the difference he made compared to Goodes, it confirmed what I have felt for a long time, Goodes is not a ruckman, but he is a great running bigman.

IMHO Roosy should be properly blooding Meicklejohn to see what he can do before the finals too. Because Doyle must be a bit doubtfull now.

The really encouraging thing for us is that even with Carey firing we were in a position to win the game. With one more quarter of competitive rucking we would have won. I think we can beat any team now, we just need to fix the rucking issue.

Really, you can say anything you want about what Roos should and shouldn't have done, but we must also remember how we have got to this position. Roos and done fantastic and even though I have a personal opinion to what he could have done, I respect his judgement because I wanted him as coach. My main problem was that LRT should have probably come on earlier because I believe Goodes was struggling in the ruck.

I'd like to see not just a bit more of LRT in the ruck but a lot more of O'Keefe (as opposed to Nicks) on the field. He really gave us something in his few moments. I reckon we are a better side when he is on the park.

Slightly off centre suggestion also is that James come in for Mathews - with C. Bolton taking Mathews half back/midfield slot full time.

Mathews hasn't been too bad but he is nowhere near as good as B2 either down back or in the midfield.

Nicks is more versatile than Mathews as a bench player (to continue my rationale - but then I'd rate Sundqvist over Nicks anyway)

i agree with this, bolton is a lot more versatile, ie small defender, tall defender and midfielder... gives us a few more options
