I have just done an assessment of the remaining rounds and likely end of year positions. It seems to me that if we win 3 then we finish second. If we only win two then it's sixth.

Funny thing is that for Collingwood it's probably the same equation. In other words, if we lose to them, they take our second spot!!

Likely scenario (with swans beating the pies) is as follows;

Collingwood 56

Are not Adelaide incredibly vulnerable???

Besides the North game, you would expect them to lose all others.

I would think, given the draw, the top four would be us, Port, Eagles and Bris.

Collingwood are also vulnerable with games against Crows, Lions, Bombers and us.

I think Sydney could very well finish 2nd.

Port Adelaide - Cannot see them losing another game from here on in.

Sydney - Should beat Hawthorn, Collingwood and Melbourne but will lose to Brisbane.

WCE - Should win most of their remaining matches, but losing to Fremantle in Round 22

Brisbane - I can probably see Collingwood knocking them over this week, but other than that, I don't think they will lose another match. They may well beat Collingwood and finish 2nd.

Adelaide - I can only really see them winning 2 of their next 4 matches. Games against West Coast at SUBI and Port at AAMI will be tough.

Collingwood - Not convinced they are a real contender. Have had a very soft past 6 weeks playing 5 teams out of 6 that were out of the top 8. Can only see them beating Essendon and Brisbane from here, losing to Adelaide and Sydney.

Essendon - Have an extremely soft draw, which should see them only lose one match, to Collingwood.

Fremantle - Can see them beating WCE and the Bulldogs. Can't see them winning any other matches, they will sneak into the 8.

if yours comes true - the Syd Bris Prelim would be in Melbourne!! That would be the AFL dream in terms of interstate clubs having to play in Melbourne!

IMO WCE v Coll would be played at MCG and I would say Collingwood would win that one, because WCE doesn't travel well at the moment, which makes Port playing Collingwood in PF at AAMI stadium (if Port finishes in top spot) and as you suggested Swans would play Brisbane at MCG.

Yep, With WC losing this week, our chances of 2nd are very very strong.

I rate Hawthorn as a bigger danger than Collingwood for us. They have always troubled us, and are still in contention.

I'm pretty sure we would play the crows on that assessment Penga, because we can't play the Eagles in a Qualifying final and then a Preliminary Final.

Ok, I've picked all 8 games in the last 2 weeks in the tipping comp, so i'm gonna look into my crystal ball and come up with the final 8....

....

Of course, since the top 8 is so close, 1 or 2 games going the other way result in completely different standings, so its still too far out to seriously predict the outcome of the final month of h & a games
