    Goal Umpire Cameras

I notice that in the SA local competition the goal umpires wear head mounted cameras so that everyone gets to see whether the ball "actually went through the goals"!!!

Geoff G. why do the followers of the nations elite competition not have the same privilege?

Those cameras might have helped on Sunday

I disagree with cameras and TVs. Its a good thing in cricket but look at what its done to rugby. So much disruptions.
Using hypothesis testing via confidence intervals:
Nick Davis mark inside 50 = goal

Agree Sid - one only needs to look at the controversy caused by the video referee in the St George Penrith game in the NRL on the weekend to see that it will cause more trouble than its worth. We all just have to accept that there will be the odd mistake made and get on with it.

Its just a pity that its the mistakes that get highlighted big time, yet the correct decisions go unnoticed (admittedly goal umpiring is a lot more black and white than field umpiring).

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

As hard as it is to say, the goal umpire on Sunday was in excellent position and had a far better view than the tv cameras.

One option for the future could be allowing coaches to have one or two "appeals" per match where decisions can be referred to a video umpire. They have such systems in the U-S, it would keep the number of delays to a minimum, and add even more suspence to close decision in the final quarter. Who knows - had it been in place on Sunday, the Swans may have won!

There's also another option, to have 2 goal umpires and they have to agree both of them if it was a goal or not. I know it's an extra expense, but it could help. They had two during the pre-season competition, I wonder what was the outcome of that experience. Was it worth it? Does anybody know?

Good thinking , Hammo .Rugby League video ref is just a joke.
Some referees just make a decision on a try any try without going to the video (Tigers v Eels - Tigers "scored" 4 tries ; all went to the video ref. 2 of the tries the video ref couldnt decide either and made it "refs call" ) .

There are too many stoppages . Ont the other hand cases like last Sundays behind/goal could be picked by a video so having ta quota on the video ref/umpire sounds like the best of both to me
