I was watching chanel ten last night (in Melbourne) and I saw the advertisement for the Saturday night game: NO SYDNEY!!!!!!! The game that I wanted to watch is not on! I think I might go over to my friends place to watch it on Fox Footy (if she invites me) and I'll also have to rely on photos.
Sydney vs Hawks game on Fox Footy

As it may sound strange, but Ch10 decided to show some uninteresting games in that time slot and got critisized by the media in Melbourne for not showing those games that proved to be more ineteresting (like they failed to show the game between Brisbane and Port and choose to show a game between cellar dwellers). This is again the same situation, because they will be showing Richmond vs. St.Kilda game instead, which probably won't have any affect on top 8 anyway.

It seems the powers that be at channel ten, like many in Melbourne, still fail to accept that the afl is a national competition. It's a joke that they would choose to show Richmond-St Kilda instead of a game which has a real bearing on the 8. But then again nothing should surprise from a network which decided against showing that Brisbane-Port match. It comes down to what they think people want to watch and Richmond are a popular team.
Nevertheless, Melbournians had better start getting used to watching matches involving interstate teams as that's all they'll get in September."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Bit annoying that the game that is on in place are two Vic teams.
And every supporter of those teams can simply catch a train in and SEE the game LIVE
Us Melb based Swans fans either have Foxtel or a very long train trip to Sydney to see it live.
Having said that, I tend to agree with the statement that other teams should get some publicity.
I suppose what really should have happened was the AFL have stronger stipulations with teh TV deal.
I mean we have 2 free to air channels involved, why not have both games on different channels?
It will happen eventually I guess....The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Talking about Channel 10 and the bizarre.............
I was watching the Geelong-Collingwood game on Saturday night when Tarrant took that great mark. They didn't show any replays and I thought they would do so after the kick.
He missed the shot for goal and straight away they cut to a commerical break!!!!
When the returned from the break, they went straight to the kick-in ?!?!?!?!?Comment

Channel 9 and 10 will pick the game that will rate the best and the powers that be at Channel 10 think Richmond vs St Kilda.
Anyway the highest rating match so far this season was last friday nights match between Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne - hardly an important match and no one turned up at the match but it got the best rating of the year so far.Once was, now elsewhereComment

According to the poll I saw earlier in the year, 3% of Vic fans support the Swans (4% Brisbane) with only 5-7% for lowly Melb teams St. Kilda, Roos and Demons. Collingwood was the top at 18% (or nearly 1 in 5 Victorian fans.....UUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!)
You could look at this two ways. Either the difference between 3 and 6 is not much in the overall scheme of things.....or you could argue that St. Kilda has nearly twice as many fans as the Swans (in Victoria).
The real question, though, is how many people watch Friday or Saturday night football who are not direct supporters of those particular teams?
We've never seen figures, but I suspect that way more than 50% of viewers on a Friday or Saturday night are merely general footy fans wanting to watch a game...and that for those fans the numbers would vary dramatically depending on whether it was a game of general interest to the comp.
To put it another way, the number of independent supporter who would have tuned in would have been way more for Power vs Brisbane (a one point thriller at the Gabba between the top two contenders) instead of Richmond vs Demons (or some other such crap match).
TV stations don't have to worry about fairness or gate receipts (in relation to showing Vic matches in Vic)...some of you still remember the old days (a couple of years ago) when the AFL still retained some power...making sure teams were televised relatively evenly and interstate matches were given preference in a bid to boost gates.
Nowadays the AFL has absolutely no say in which match is televised (when there is a choice). Good on, Wayne
Notwithstanding that Richmond and Saints have more fans than Swans and Hawks...I reckon the TV numbers would be higher for our match (esp considering 99.9% of Vic fans will be at home, not at the game!!!)...
And on the other hand it is Nathan Burke's last match, and St. Kilda are the least seen team on Vic television (less than Fremantle) so they really deserve a break."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

damn! damn! damn!......please tell me its not the Huddo/Green show again......OH NOOOOOOOO...the continual references to how depleted the hawks are and how lucky the swans are to get this and that free kick....(what???, u say, a free kick to us!!!)
I'll be at the ground so will have to tape it... there's no way round it...I'll have to put up with the inane tv comentators...where's ABC News Radio when u need them....NO NO NO... I can hear Huddo squealing now..."Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."Comment
