    TOC dinner timing

I know they are professional, and will not drink and will all be in bed by 10.30pm, but I'm wondering about the timing of the TOC dinner on Friday night (tomorrow) just the day before this crucial match against the hated hawks!!!
I will stand to be corrected here but I thought one of the last times we had a "do" like this was for Paul Kelly on the Friday night before the Canberra game against the roos on Sunday...and that day the boys looked VERY lethargic...
I would have preferred it to be on the Sunday...and sincerely hope that the night will PUMP the boys for this danger game!
    Thoughts?

Oh, and here's a snippet about the boozers...seems that Blighty's concerns about their drinking mentality is still relevant...

"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I don't think the team will be attending. Roos was thinking about possibly sending some of the younger or injured players to report the night back to the others. Shame really that they miss out on such an historical night.

Gee pillow, if that's true, then it would be sad, especially for the younger team players (Schneider, LRT etc), not being at the dinner with some absolute legends of the game...it's club history... Surely they have to attend something like that... one or two might even be in it!!!
The surviving TOC members are suppose to be at the hawks game, so I'm hoping our guys will want to give them a night to remember on Saturday...

I heard Roosey say the players won't be attending (apart from maybe a couple of young guys). Maybe the dinner should've been held on Thursday night so the team could attend?? Nevertheless, the Team of the Century will be in the rooms before the Hawthorn game so that should fire everyone up for the occassion.

The Paul Kelly dinner was May 9. The Kangaroos game was May 25.

I hope the players will be there. We're going and were hoping to see them there.

Sorry, bam_bam, but according to Roosy, players won't attend the dinner. TOC will be presented to them before the game.

              Bummer.

Oh well in one hand a good chance at a premiership the other seeing them at the TOC dinner.

Gee hard to tell which one would be better.

Oh that's very disappointing. Until circumstances changed for me a couple of weeks ago, i was really disappointed to be missing such an historic event, and I think it's a bit sucky that they current players can't be there with their "heritage" of sorts. Maybe they should have planned it for the end of the year or something instead, because I feel it's an event the current crop really should be part of.

Swans to miss big night out
                  08 August 2003 AFL
                  By TIM MORRISSEY

GUESS who won't be attending the Sydney Swans' Team Of The Century dinner tonight?

Focal point: Swans captain Stuart Maxfield says his players have to focus on games and not dinners.

                  The Swans.

Despite having already secured their place in September's finals, the Swans are taking no chances preparing for Hawthorn at the SCG tomorrow.

That includes skipping the biggest social event in the club's history, which will be attended by almost 2000 people at the Sydney Convention Centre.

Swans captain Stuart Maxfield said the decision by the players to stick to their regular individual pre-game routines wasn't debated.

"We didn't need to make a formal decision," Maxfield said. "Everyone would have loved to have gone to the dinner because it is an important moment in the club's history.

"But the guys realise we have to play the following night and we need to focus on the game."

Maxfield, midfielder Daryn Cresswell and forward Michael O'Loughlin are the only exceptions and will make a brief appearance at the function.

Maxfield believes the best way the Swans can honour the club's Team of the Century is to not blow it against the Hawks.

"There's going to be a lot of past players and all-time greats there and the best way to repay them is to put in a strong performance against Hawthorn," Maxfield said.

The Hawks, with just eight wins, are playing for finals survival, needing to win all four remaining games to have any chance.

At stake for Sydney is second place on the ladder and an all-important guaranteed home final in the first round.
