Well I really can't complain, BUT

Lockett at Full Forward is a ****ing stuff up and very very very wrong. Him and Pratt both had claims to the Full Forward spot but seeing as Pratt did kick more goals for the club and did win a premiership with us, he earnt it more. Still at least both made the team.

Full back position to Harriot isn't what I had in mind and to leave Dunks and Carter out in front of him was a joke IMO.

Cazaly not making the side is an insult to his name and family. To think we didn't pick an AFL Hall of Fame player with Legend status is a joke.

Overall I was happy with the side, all our Brownlow Medal winners made the side except for Teasdale, and the Captain and Vice Captain was right.

I was happy that John Rantall made the team, as was my father who is his biggest fans and Mum was overjoyed to here Stevie Wright made the team. My favoite made it as well, but who he is is up to you all to pick.
    Once was, now elsewhere

Plugger is the greatest goalkicker of all time though Robbie and his goal average is better, also Plugger is regarded by many as the best player ever to play the game. I can see your point though Robbie, in my opinion it didn't matter as long as they both got in.

I reckon they could have done a heck of a lot better witha few omissions.

        Not for mine:

Dennis Carroll - In Jack Dyers words, a good average footballer, not exceptionally courageous. Not a bad kick but good at kicking to the opposition. Got it because he was part of the early establishment and in "the clique still".
Would have gone for Browning before him, not that courageous either but did hurt sides with his penetrating kicks and was good at taking the handpass from a mark and quickly transferring play and creating down field.

David Murphy - good average footballer hardly in the elite of the club. His selection astounds me. Too inconsistent for mine.

Barry Round - Good solid clubman, but not in the class of Teasdale. Maybe the bench for Barry but not leading Ruck.

Steve Wright - played a lot of games but was horribly inconsistent, and had real trouble against the better sides and courage overrated. Disposal poor.
Barry Mitchell was a far better player. Plus surely in the clubs history we had another genuine rover who excelled.

On Roy Cazaly, he gets nearly a full page in the Encyclopedia of League Footballers written Jim Main espousing him as a true legend of the game. Was Jim Main a TOC selector?

He represented the BIG V 13 times. From the age of 28!!!!

Steve Wright got a game with the BIG V "s B Side once.

Cazaly's non selection is an insult to the history of the game, and to think 2 of the selection panel got a gig. Sheez!!!

John Heriot a skinny full back who got plenty of bags kicked on him. He also kicked 40 goals which means he must have played plenty of games away from Full Back. No doubt Fred Goldsmith should have got the key position. But then again the panel probably would not have been able to justify Heriot getting a spot on the interchange.

i agree with your questioning of Carroll,Wright and Murphy(he was truely surprised and Mitchell was a better player).Would anyone seriously pick any of these players in front of ,say, O'louglin? In any position?I also don't think Morwood should have been included.I think most of the South Melbourne supporters that i spoke to at the function were a little shocked with these selections.
Roundy?I think he deserved starting ruckman.

I'll write up the night for those who are interested. Hopefully tonight, but frankly I am exhausted, so it might be later in the week.
