No Player bashing PLEASE

I don't intend to bash any players.

They'd haul me up on assault charges. Sorry... bad joke, but so were the Swans last night.

However, there were far too many players who weren't interested enough on Saturday night. It upset me greatly to see BH and AG give each other a high five and a pat on the back after they both kicked stat-filling NOTHING goals late in the game. They had no reason to congratulate themselves or each other. We do not pay them $1m to congratulate themselves when they have contributed to a loss.

Mate, I tried my heart out, but it was all to no avail. The Cheer Squad was only about 50% full, and in any case it was very hard to be as resonant as we usually are. Robbie from Melbourne hit it on the head saying that it didn't feel like an atmosphere at a footy match-no anticipation. I overheard a club official muttering how pissed off he was to have the Swans greats doing their cavalcade in front of a 30-40% filled ground.

I've said my bit on set-seating. Purely and simply when you get 20-30% of the crowd still find their seats at the 25 minute mark of the first quarter, it is hard to create any sort of anticipation amongst the crowd.

Mate, I'm one guy who often tries MORE than my best. Those who know me knew how down I was after the match. At least I knew that I was not alone when I saw Bron's face at the after-match. It was as if somebody stole her winning Lotto ticket.

Still at the moment it seems that the majority of people who hurt when we lose are in the minority at the SCG these days.

And you wonder why I like my Melbourne/Adelaide trips.......maybe I had subvert Melbournian genes in me, as I act like a Victorian in relation to my emotional connection to my team.

In fact it wont happen anywhere in Australia. We as Australians are the most pathetic, boring, non eventful supporters ever to follow any code.

A few years back when the Argentinian National Futbol team toured to play a qulaifyer against Australia about 5000 fans from Boca Juniors (Huge futbol team in Arg) came down under with the team. They were incensed at the fact that security told em to sit down, that the participation from fellow Argo//Australias was poor and the fact that many aussies in the crowd were telling them to shut up and sit down. They vowed never to return to Australia unless they had to live here.

Its not part of our sporting culture and never will be. Its a shame b/c we are missing out on a truely magical atmosphere.

Great post Diego. And by the way, I was at Australia-Argentina as well, abusing you lot from Bay 23 with the Ultras Socceroos hard-cores.

All is not lost though mate. The Melbourne-based Cheer Squad is definitely well worth a squizz these days mate. People are getting used to the soccer-style singing and are enjoying the enthusiasm we have been showing of late. Hopefully if we do have a home final, we can get lots of them to come and help us lift the atmosphere up here too.

ok that's it..starting next week I am joining you mogos in the cheer squad. I have stayed away b/c of an unsavoury episode with one of the CS members a few years back.

I am going to smuggle in air horns, whistles, flares and the lot. (as if I will get past security but I will try)

Its time for me to become involved me thinks.

Next year I will be cashed up and plan on going on many road trips. This year my budget has not allowed for much.

Consider me a future member of the CS Jules!!

It's not losing that upsets me. It's when we lose because the players just don't seem to want to play that makes me mad. It costs money to do what I did on the weekend and what you do every second weekend, as you obviously well know ... sometimes I'm left wondering why I should care, if the players don't. The Swans seemed happy as Larry to throw away a perfectly good top four spot and a perfectly good chance at a home qualifying final. That's almost gone now.

I am puzzled why they were so flat? Did last week really take a lot out of them. They just didnt tackle and chase their man in the 2nd qrt.

Is it me but has the footy this weekend in most heritage matches seem like the brand of footy that was played 30 years ago? Starting with the Cats and Demons game on Friday night.

Some of the disposals were a flash back to how footy was played in the old days. Started off with the flat punt kick. I saw heaps of these kicks this weekend.

Yeah! But remember Cathy is reading this and will faint if she hears that you are attempting to bring the above into the CS area.

I can't promise that we are the best Cheer Squad in the world. But there is a small hard core group up the back (plus Cathy down the front) who are willing to try and create atmosphere.

Those who constantly bag us should put their money where their mouths are and see how difficult it is to try and get the crowd behind the team.

Help is not only welcome. It is needed!
