Scott Stevens to play as a key forward and then be as good as imaginary is not good enough.

It was the Swans of old being one-dimensional in attack and when looking for an alternate avenue when going forward - where was Stevens???

He has to present himself as an option, otherwise what is he doing on the field?

Another thing, why do Barry Hall and Magic look for an option when 55m out?? They try to chip it short and every time it gets cut off.

I would have thought that at worst, bomb it long.

It's got me beat. They have to back themselves. Barry was in front and just over 50 m out so he kicked it to (I can't remember who) who was the same distance out at an angle. Go figure.

I agree on the desperation to "get it off" when within kicking distance. It just creates too many turnovers from CHB. Why they don't go to the top of the square has got me buggered. Then our forwards/midfielders are too lazy to chase out of the forward line.

Also kicking in to the forard line from a set kick outside 50 is poor. They take too long and there never seems to be anyone running forward from the centre to space. The opposition are able to get back too quickly.

The running game that has been so successful suddenly ceases to exist mid game.

Yep...it Pi***s me off too when they do that. Have a shot. What is the worst that can happen...it's marked by the opposition in the square/OOBOF. The best result a goal or a point as a consolation.. Either way, it's better IMHO to do that than continually chip away, giving up the ball anyway when the passes are 'telegraphed' or delivered with imprecision, or the receiving player has butterfingers... Magic and Barry shd back themselves, unless there is someone who is a good mark and an accurate kick standing unattended directly infront!!!

Only half agree with this. Neither O'Loughlin nor Hall is a particularly long shot. From outside 50 they will miss far far more times than they will score a goal. And unfortunately, Doyle and Ball are about the only two players in our squad capable of taking a pack mark in a crowded goal square. Thus trying to pick out a player closer in is usually the best option. And there have been many many times this season when it has worked well. The players just have to be patient and wait for someone to find some space.

However, it also depends on the players in the forward line working hard to create that space, and sadly none seemed prepared to do that last night.

About the only other option in this situation is for Schneider or Davis to run past and collect a handball, and then launch from on or around the 50, since these two are more than capable of kicking goals from that distance, especially with a bit of momentum up.

Remember that until recently (and maybe still - not heard any stats about it recently) we were by far the most efficient team at turning inside 50s into goals so they must be doing something right. Last night was just a fumbly, lethargic performance by all bar a few players.
