Time to throw Schneider in the middle I reckon and become our number 1 onballer. We are a couple of years away from being a genuine flag threat, and I feel it is now time for Schneider to step up and be the class midfielder that we desperately need. Not taking anything away from the likes of Creswell (who I think should stick with his retirement plans), Bolton and Williams, but we really do lack someone in the middle and at stoppages that gets a clean breakaway and who has very good disposal of the ball.

Add Davis to that and we have two very talented goal kicking midfielders who would supercede Willo and Maxi (IMO).
Allow J. Bolton to go right in and under (replacing Cressa) and we have three class acts in place. Then Kirk as defensive midfielder, O'Keefe as receiver, Doyle in the Ruck and Goodes as Ruck Rover and we are starting to look good.
Last piece of the midfield would be C. Bolton in the Buckley role, sweeping behind the pack - superb delivery by foot.
Fixter FB Crouch
Barry CHB Kennelly
O'Keefe C. Bolton Goodes
Schneider Hall Davis
O'Loughlin LRT Sundquist
(Ruck) Doyle Kirk J. Bolton
(Interchange) Meiklejohn
I like this team (assuming we lose Nicks, Willo, Maxi, Cressa, Ball, Seymour, Warfe, Frosty) but not assuming that any untried players will be filling breaches on a fan's hope and prayer.
The only real unknowns are TWO KPP BACKS (yet to see what Hunt and James can do at AFL level, or if Saddo or Stevens will ever come up).
I have not speculated on whether the form of Ablett, McGlone, Buchanan, McVeigh, Thewlis, Dempster and Malceski will allow them to unseat any of the players I have named (particularly Sundquist in the forward pocket and Crouch in the back pocket)
Can't see a place for Fosdike (not even forward or back pocket). The others are just more talented IMO.
I would still like to see Stevens given a proper go at CHB."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Don't think Schneider's got the stamina at the moment - that's why he spends a lot of time on the bench. Needs to work on his fitness/stamina in the off-season, then he'll make a great midfielder.
Not sure if I agree with sharp9 on Fosdike. I think he's got the ability to be a very good hard-running midfielder who can attack as well as get 20-plus possessions. But his form has really fallen away lately and he's one that needs to lift.
I also think there's a place for Schauble in the backline - he's done nothing wrong.Comment

One thing that has been noticeable - Maxfield's form has been poor since he has returned. Whether that's due to injury or something else, we need his input in the midfield or else we will remain stagnant.Comment

The thing to remember about Schneider is he's still only 19 and because of injury last year wasn't able to get a full pre-season under his belt. Hopefully he can do that this summer and build up the endurance first to play a full game on the ground, and second to provide another midfield option for longer periods of the game.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

As great as Schneider has been (and I've felt he's been just about our best player in the last 3 weeks or so) - I think we need to be patient. He is NOT going to continue to improve at the current rate he is improving - unless he is the next Andrew McLeod, and he is not. He will take until 21-22 to realise his full potential. That's 2-3 years away, and for the meantime, I'm happy for him to continue his current role.We hate Anthony Rocca

You've quoted me out of context. I was saying that Schneides wouldn't keep up his impressive improvement at the current rate for that long... McLeod was still improving noticably year-to-year at the age of about 24.
I guess I'm just not keen to put too many big wraps on Schneider. He's only 19, and he's only played 19 games of footy. He's very good - one day he may be a champion. But I'm sticking with the conservatism principle. I do believe he's going to be a 200 game player - but I don't believe that he's the answer to our midfield blips. At least... there's no reason to say he is yet.We hate Anthony Rocca
