Pencil In 8th Spot After This Week...

With West Coast and Fremantle to win , and the Bombers thrashing Richmond and Sydney getting trashed by Brisbane, it looks as though we can pencil in 8th spot after this week ,with it looking likely we will stay in that spot until the finals.

We will play an elimination final away from home, probably in the west, get thumped and season over.

Ahwell I've been happy the way the season went, and hopefully the boys can keep improving next year...

Why all the negativeity? Surely our prospects are brighter than that.

Cheer cheer, you disappoint me - What about your sig?

As they say, prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. We could be in plenty worse positions. The best thing is that IMHO our destiny is still largely in our own hands. If we win 2 or 3, we can still finish top 4. Then who knows?

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I'm going to put myself out there and maybe I am an eternal optimist, but I believe we can win. I have all year. And I'm sticking to it. Was crushed Saturday night and had a couple of doubts, but I gave myself a good talking to yesterday and mind and body are at one again. It will be hard, but .......

I still believe some people are dreaming. It's totaly up to the players if they want to play any significant role in September. It's a mind over body thing. At the moment it looks like they believe they've done enough for the season and you must be a realy big optimist to believe otherwise.

Good on ya BAM_BAM, let's all jump on. We have to be some sort of chance, we did nearly beat the crows in Adelaide. Go Blooders!

Hopefully Saturday night was just an abberation.

When we play footy without expectation, we play really good footy.

I reckon we were under an unusual amount of pressure on Saturday night, we were just expected to win and forgot what got us to that "favourite" position in the first place.

Have faith, after all we have sent the following teams on losing streaks so far this year:

              Maggies
              Lions
              Eagles

So long as we make the 8, then I believe we are a side that has no expectations and can upset sides that can get frozen in the headlights (ala Port 2001 & 2002).

Even Freo had more pressure on them going into this year than we did and we have performed better on the road than they have.

I too was very disappointed after Saturday's game - I couldn't believe it - but I feel they did have heaps of pressure on them - by themselves perhaps to win and win well because of the Team of the Century.

We are unfortunate to have 3 big games to play compared to damn Essendon etc.
                Love those Swans

Well said Plugger, times like this the real fans get behind the teams with all the encouragment they can give not all this negativity floating around.

Agreed - now we've dumped the favourites tag and all the pressure is off we may get back to playing our best.

One poor display doesn't undo all the other good work this year - remember we beat Collingwood, Brisbane, West Coast etc and pummelled Essendon... that's a sign of a very good side.

I think we can still win 2 or 3 of the last 3 and make the top 4.

Look i would love to say that we can go deep into september but i just dont think we can. We play Brisbane at the GABBA, Collingwood at home and The Dees at the G. I dont think we can win at the Gabba, it will be a tough ask to beat collingwood with the form we are in and its a danger game at the G with the dees unpredictable. If we win 1 of these gam,es it will put us 6th or 7th and may have to play a melbourne side at the G. The loss Hawthorn was very important to our finals chance's and finishing in the top 4.

As Masey can testify, I was not serious in this thread, however I came across serious to find out what people REALLY thought about our current situation, which would NOT have been fully achieved if i had put a smily face with a wink on it or something like that. And I'm pleased to see the clear majority are still staying positive which is what the players would want.

It could also go the other way, and we could win the last 3 and make the top 4 easily. We could also beat Collingwood and Melbourne and still finish in the top 4, I think that is quite realistic.

The game against Melbourne, is a formality, not a danger game.

When will people learn? Until the Swans develop a killer instinct, comments like these are just gonna lead to disappointment.

Remember such great comments about Carey being a waste of space (on the field), and playing all of the Hawks' 3 talls will help the Swans.

It has to do with that positive thinking that everybody is talking about even if it's against a better judgment.
