Can we we have a "Getaway" report?

I hear that quite a few RWOnliners had a good trip to Brissie, please share your trip details with those less fortunate

Why certainly.... In point form because I'm too tired to think straight.

    - We had maybe 3 experienced people out on the field for the banner - the rest were more or less plucked out of the crowd. But somehow we managed.

    - Plenty of chanting, singing and support. Great fun. Behind us were a row of people who are apparently there every week supporting whoever is playing Brisbane! They'd prepared shirts with letters that spelt out SYDNEYSWANS.

    - Don't ask me about the game, I'll have to view the replay for that!! The view from behind the goals is still as shocking as it is at every ground in the land. I normally sit high up on a wing, and when I'm at ground level, my depth perception goes to hell.

    - The Gabba is a great ground - generally good views (at least if you're not at ground level behind the goals) and the people are friendly.

    - the weather was playing tricks too.. Sometimes windy, sometimes drizzling, sometimes bright sunshine...

And the call went up as the rain began falling gently again..

    Ponchos on!

    HEY! HEY! HEY-HEY-HEY!

    PONCHO, PONCHO MAAAAAAAAN
I WANT TO BE! A PONCHO MAAAAAN
    PONCHO, PONCHO MAAAAAAAN
I WANT TO BE A PONCHOOOOO

Tired now. Going to bed. Good weekend's work, everyone.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

One more thing....Heath James assured us at the airport that he got thru the game fine with not a trace of problem. That's the good news.

The bad news, which you may already know, is the Saddo is out for the season. Medial ligamant. This is from a journo who had the bad luck to be sitting in the middle of us on the flight back.

Just a great weekend. The fact we won made it 100x as brilliant. But basically Des summed it up pretty well.

        Other notable songs/chants/moments etc:

        - taunting Alastair Lynch singing "Captain Snooze Captain Snooze Captain Snooze"
        - when Brett Kirk got the free from ump #2 that he kicked the goal from in the 3rd quarter to the tune of Guantanamera "2's not a maggot, #2's not a maggot
        - Singing Cheer Cheer over and over after the game with a heap of people around us joining in coz they only played it once on the PA and it was almost inaudible
        - The smiles on the players' faces as they walked past us at the aiport to get their flight. Nick Davis carrying a baby (quite possibly Willo's little one) and saying "it's not mine" as he walked past us.

As already mentioned, Heath told us himself he got through unscathed. Tim Morrisey (from the Terror) was sitting by us on the plane and he said Saddo's knee will keep him out for the rest of the year.

Definitely going to have to try to make it up to Brissie next time we play there, and if it's half as much fun as this weekend, it will be brilliant!

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Yes, but Mike and I were there to counteract his jinx. And we kept him behind us so the players were shielded from his evil influence.

Another factor is that J was there wearing her Geelong outfit so the Lions may have got confused and thought it was already next week and it was only the Cats that they were playing.

One extra thought about the game yesterday.....

In what was possibly an omen the main game, the Bris ressies also kicked atrociously for goal in the supporting game (15 goals 18 behinds) against the Northern Eagles (though the Lion managed to get the win anyway)
