Finals anomaly if we finish 3rd - possible no home final at all

If we finish 3rd and win our first final on the road, and Port win their first final, we will head straight for a Prelim at the G.

This means no home final at all in Sydney

if we finish third, even if we lose the first week, we'll have a home final in the second week, it was changed recently.

I know I've said this before, but if we earn a prelim, we'll get it in Sydney, irrespective of the MCG rule.

Sydney is too important to the AFL, and they will find a way to get it in Sydney, just like the have "found" a way to get the first two weeks at the home teams ground.

Third is the worst spot to finish in the top four. Which sucks.

Think about it. In the first week, you have an away final which you'll probably lose. Then, you play the sixth best team in the competition in a knockout final. Still not much fun there. THEN, you get to play the best team in the competition on their home turf! WHAT JOY!

If we lose this week... pray that we end up fourth, not third!

I'll take third ahead of outside the top 8 anyday.
Also I'll take third ahead of 5th to 8th anyday.
Just think how far we have come in one year that finishing the home and away season in third spot is a worry to you. Go Swannies.
ps we still have a bit of work to do to finish in the top 4.

The AFL said they would "bank" a final, which would enable the game to be played in Sydney. Otherwise the Swans would be in the same position as what happened with Adelaide last year.

I really have no idea what the AFL will do - first the "banking" thing came up, then they said there wouldn't be any banking because they were too scared to go into debit with the MCC so that they might have to play even more finals at the MCG in the next 2 years to make up for the banking, and who knows all the interstate teams could be in the top 8 again next year...

I'm not counting my chickens until the AFL releases the fixture for the finals. It's a shame, because I'd hate to see us or another interstaters miss out on a deserved home final - especially say for Freo if they qualify, their supporters would miss out on their first final ever and that would be bad

Although i'll be smiling if Adelaide 'hosts' a final against us at the MCG

I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if the AFL finds a way to get the preliminary final to Sydney if that's what we've earned, especially if it's against another interstate club.

But imagine the uproar if it was Collingwood or Essendon we had to play, and the game was moved to Sydney.

There would be just as much uproar of course if it was us "hosting" either of those two at the G.

Still, a final against another interstate club in Melbourne would be like a home game anyway.

Only in the second week (ensuring EVERY top 4 side gets to either win a final or host one). The lower ranked host of the Preliminary final WILL PLAY AT THE G (unless the Wobbles are top ranked...ie they finish second and win their first final - and Port lose)
