SA vs SCG

I'm still not sure about Stadium Australia.

I love the SCG and the atmosphere it oozes. You can feel it even when it's empty.

That same feeling doesn't exist for mind at SA.

Questions I have about the place:

*Do we have a home ground advantage at SA?

*Do we lose anything because we don't play there so often?

*Has does the different dimensions of the ground affect us vis-a-vis the SCG?

*What about the atmosphere - each of the stands at the SCG has a distinct feel to it. As SA is one homogenous stand, I feel it comes across a bit bland.

Also love Paddington and the genteel rustic feel to it.

Get a grip, SA is essential. It draws more people to the games , and more New people at that !

That wasn't the issue.

Waverley may have been as big as the MCG, or supposed to be the AFL's super ground - doesn't mean anyone actually liked it.

Four wins out of five games - the only loss being by less than a goal - would indicate the players also enjoy playing there, and that it does present a home ground advantage.

I just find it colder than the SCG. Perhaps we've just had cold nights out there, but I always have my big "michellan man" jacket on when out there. I don't think I've worn it at the SCG for a few years.

Where we sit along the wing, the seating is in the temporary part and the ground the noise that reverberates when we stamp our feet is more effective than stamping on concrete.

I like the closeness to the players of the SCG. So I guess I like the SCG better for spectator reasons, but you can't argue with win - loss figures, We do perfrom well at SA. Having said that, we've only lost 2 this year at the SCG too.

im hoping this weekend that stade de silence becomes stade de cauldron... where the broadcast side grandstand will be full and noise will becoming from all directions rather than just behind us...

I reckon they're both great venues.

The atmosphere thing about the SCG is a bit of a cop out these days. It hasn't really gone off this season IMHO.

It is colder at night at SA because it's not near the coast.

Also, there has always been a distinct breeze due to the open ends.

With the ends now closed and roofed that might make a difference. We will know in 4 days and 3 hours!

I also think it has something to do with the surroundings, it's pretty open and there is the network of waterways into Homebush bay. It's the same cold I get at home living close to the river.

After much soul searching (love the sacred SCG), I have come to the conclusion that SA is better for all concerned.

The SCG is deplorable for services, particularly in the Ladies Stand, they pour the beer for you once you get to the front of the line, I hate that so much. In certain places they have frosted the glass and have no TVs. What the f*&k is that? How will the trust cope with 45,000 people when they can not service 30,000 properly?

Hammo got is spot on - the players find SA perfectly fine, 4 out of 5. We have fond memories of Kel and Dunk's farewell there, it can be a home away from home.

As for atmosphere, well that's up to the individual. If you have ever watched a 40,000 crowd at the MCG, it looks empty but I still loved being there, same with Telstra and a 25,000 crowd.

The only bug bear of mine is transport and now I have decided to catch the train and do it without complaint. Although I will get a cab home...teehee

Our running style of play is far more suited to the bigger Telstra Stadium and hence I'd rather be playing there.

You could be right. It does have that damp cold feel.

it isnt where we sit... we sit on the HFF and our seats are pointed to CHF! rather than the centre... also when the ball is on the wing, u cant see the action...

That's something that annoyed me too.

The seats aren't angled right so you end up watching most of the match with your head turned.
