    The phylthy pies.

How hard are they going to be compared to Brissy ??
do we need to change our style of play to beat them ??
Or perhapes we are just plain better than them and don't need to worry at all. I think they might still be over rated, but if I was the coach I sure as hell would not be sharing that with the players.
Interesting with the win againts the lions though, thats kind of how we have done it all year, low expectations then .... THUMP !!
up we come and claim huge scalps !!

I'm not sure about their injury list. Also I can't make any judgement based on the last week's game against Crows, because some of the Crows players were sick and not fit to play.
But make sure of this, Pies will not allow to be suprised this time. The Swans will have to be a better team to win. That's for sure.

      Collingwood Injury List 12/8/03
      7:59:38 AM Tue 12 August, 2003
      Tarkyn Lockyer knee reconstruction season
      Tom Davidson knee reconstruction season
      Ben Kinnear ankle 1 weeks
Simon Prestigiacomo strained medial ligament 1 week
Dane Swan fractured hand 2 weeks
      Paul Licuria calf test

this is their injury list for what it's worth (my apologies in advance for desecrating our board with this info)

I agree their last game isn't much too go on and you proably can't go on their form in the Brisbane game either, especially when you look at our results in the past couple.

I think we need to be wary of them, obviuosly they've played well enough to be up there.

If Kirk can do the job on Buckley (there's no reason to suggest he won't) and maybe Williams blitzes Licuria then we should win.

While Rocca and Tarrant are dangers it will be hard for them to kick a winning score if they don't get the ball.... hopefully Barry and Magic will have plenty of it at the other end!!!

If Doyle is fit he should play - even if we only get 2 quarters out of him.

Buckley is definitely the key to any magpie victory.

            He must be shut out!

Watching the Maggies last week, they have a pretty good run out of defence, like us. I reckon our forwards are going to have to put in a fair defensive effort, pressure their backs and make them pay.

Did anyone read Paul Gough's Early Openers on the AFL site. I am not sure who goes in to this game as favourite but it will be a blockbuster in every sense!

                    (phylthy pie here)

Exactly right. It's what we (Pies) are going to have to do to you guys (choke your run from the backline).

Both teams forward lines are going to have to apply much defensive pressure or else they will suffer.

It's a really interesting game in the sense that both our gameplans start from getting 'run' from the backline and that both of our main forwards(O'loughlin/Hall and Tarrant/Rocca) are the type that bring teamates into the game.

It's also worth noting that both of our 2 main key forwards, first-choice opponents are out(Hall/Presti and Tarrant/Saddington)

This game will be a cracker!

Given Kirk's successes this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see Malthouse copy what Schwab did last week and play Buckley as a half forward, at least for part of the game. If he does this, will Roos change his plan and move Mathews onto Bucks? Thing with Kirk is that not only is he a great tagger, he's also one of our better players at clearances (and lets face it, that's not a great strength of the team as a whole). Schwab's tactic was effective at moving Kirk out from the area where he can be most damaging, and Buckley's long kicking means he can be a danger at CHF.

                        Good point lizz,
I hope that Roos is reading this board, cos somtimes he is not so astute when leaving a player on another for just a little too long. However Sheeds has done this at times and justified it by saying that the player will "pay him back" (the coach) for the faith shown in him (the player).
I'm not sure about all this, I just hope we can shut Buckley down and crush the Black and White scum.

A valid point lizz. Perhaps this time will Roosy change their game plan quicker than against Crows and Hawks. It costed them a game. I wonder what would be the option to counter act when Bucley is moved into another position as you suggested above.

gotta be matthews job if buckley moves forward. Let kirky enjoy his footy and get the ball. Brisbanes fascination with breaking tags led to their demise last week. if collingwood follows the same theme, we should win
Only 9 notes? How easy can it be!

This season the magpies have got a lot of their midfield grunt from Woewodin as well as Buckley, and in the last game we managed to negate both of them to the extent that they had to rely on Licuria and O'Bree to create their opportunities.

If we can force Collingwood to change their game plan in that way again, I think we'd have enough forward power to outscore them.
