Media Commentators....Who's winning?

Hmmm maybe there can be nomainations of a female to lick all over to get the guys in

As for the Commentators the only stand outs IMHO is Derm and Dennis Commeti (sp?)

Please please give Channel Bruce back the rights

Is bruce commentating anywhere?

I heard rumours when Tim Lane signed with Ten at the start of the year that Bruce was going to commentate Friday nights for ABC Radio - did this eventuate?? I can't seem to find ABC Friday Night AFL on Radio.

I have a sick addiction to hearing Bruce McAvaney commentate AFL matches!!! A condition without cure! Bring back Bruce!! hehe.

Channel Nine's blokes seem to be less informed on AFL than ch 10. Is SOS boring? Being in NSW I don't get the guy who kisses fish. You know, Whatsisname....

SOS would be possibly the worst special comments man in the league, just states the bleeding obvious, uses all the old cliches and shows no imagination. Sam is the best special comments man for mine, his constant ridiculing of the umps and incisive interveiws make him the best. I can't say I miss Channel 7's boring conservative commentary one little bit.

I only rate Commetti. The rest can't commentate unless the game is within a goal or a team is coming home hard and Tim Lane for mine doesn't seem to be a good on Tele. I rated him so highly on radio.

Channel 7 just seemed to be able to keep a boring game going, bu then again, maybe I am living in the past!! I still get shivers down my spine when I think about Bruce's call of Pluggers first quarter goal in the Grand Final when he pushed Grant out of the way. ahhhhh

I must say go Dennis. I loved it on Sunday, instead of just saying frigthening he pre empted it with Thunder Bolts and lightening very very frightening indeed.

Derm is growing on me. Have thought he was a bit a tosser for a while, but he has been the only sane voice during some games (Adleaide game).

But no matter how hard Eddie tries, he just doesn't portray the excitement Bruce did.

I almost fully agree with you Bam Bam, especially Derm. A month ago he annyoed the crap out of me but I see him as a kind of Swans sympathiser.

However, Bruce has lost the plot completely. None of the footy clubs, staff and players can relate to him. He goes overboard way too often.

As for the best going, Dennis and Tim Lane. There is one rapid fire caller who does pretty well on Fox...Jason Bennett. I reckon he has a quick wit, good turn of phrase, doesn't judge all that often and doesn't try to dominate a call as Eddie sometimes does

This Sat night, Tim will call with Quarters and Wallsy doing special comments. I don't mind this trio, suits me fine, however I won't get to hear them until the replay, I will be calling the game live, in my head hehe

His resume speaks for itself:

Brownlow medallist, 3 time B&F winner and TOTC half back flanker.
Hall of Fame member, All Australian selector, former Victorian Chairman of selectors and International Rules selector.

He is the most cerebral of all commentators and focuses mainly on match ups and who is beating whom in them.

He was filthy when 7 got rid of him as Talking Footy host for Tim Lane. From then, he was good as with 9.

For mine it has got to be Dermie, apart from loving the tough stuff a bit too much he actually reads the play well and genuinely gives an insight into what will probably happen.

I know a number of people who would disagree with these sentiments Charlie.

Personally I think all commentators (Drew Morphett all-time worst), like umpires, are crap, but I wouldn't mind licking P J Harvey all over.
