    2004 - Melbourne games

    From the AFL web-site

This article describes what the clubs are asking for next year - I wonder why the Swans administration are being so tight-lipped ?

    I wondered the same.....

If we got rid of Melbourne and Richmond, it would be a 14 team comp and over 22 rounds, you would only miss out on playing 4 teams twice.
That would make it alot easier for all concerned.

Interesting tidbit in the Age today that Richmond is now being given no blockbusters because 2 men and a dog turn up for them.
Brisbane is the new blockbuster team and to a lesser extent, St Kilda.

If Richmond were kicked out of the comp, would Caro still talk about them every week?

If we lost 2 teams from the comp, it seems it is pretty much set in stone that the pre-season comp would be scrapped and the regular season extended and every team would play each other twice...

      BUT

The AFL are now committed to a 16 team comp, and I tend to believe them for the time being....

Seems inevitable in the long run that Melbourne teams will either die, merge or relocate as the competition continuues it's growth.....

given our history, for the Melbourne fans I would hope they could relocate and still have ties back to their heritage. IMO it's important.

Lets make it a truly national comp and send the Kanga's to the ACT, Richmond to NT (with caro as media liason) Melbourne or maybe even Hawthorn to TASsie.

with playing each other twice hopefully this will ensure there is no loss of games for our Melbourne based supporters.

Traditionaly Richmond and Hawthorn have larger fan base than St.Kilda and alike. You also missed Western Bulldogs. I would send them to NT, because they expressed interest to play there next year.
If people didn't go to Richmond's games is because they played crap thi syear and their supporters are very mad.
This year tendecy was different. People stopped going to the games of traditional rivals and start going to the games where they expected to see a GOOD game, which was terrific. That of course is causing problems for AFL when scheduling blockbusters, because they don't know how teams will play next season.
