    Ablett To Stay Or Go?

In my humble opinion he should stay with cresswell to retire and Maxfield nearing the end he will be needed to help fill holes in our midfield. Also if the rumours are true and ROK is contemplating heading home I think the club would be mad to of load him.
Having said that I think if a decent trade can be done then i think his days at Sydney may be numbered but I just hope its not one season to early

Luke should stay with cresswell retiring he would definately take his spot as he did when cresswell was injuried earlier this season..

Ive seen alot of ressies games and he is killing it he would be a waste of time for the swans to let him go now right when hes about to get his shot...

Same with Amon he had a top grade spot at the end of last season and broke his leg letting Adam into his spot...

My point is both Amon and Luke are great players and they will get there chance....

Sooner rather than later remember ppl YOUTH POLICY and they r both young

Probably Luke and Amon will stay because of the youth policy at the club. I'm looking forward to seeing Ablett have a go in the seniors and I do believe that if the Swans let him go, it will be one season too soon.

Remember with the need to cut our list to 34 before the draft, a young kid might just have to be delisted. With James and MJ looking like they will kept the their spots on the senior list and the likelyhood of Cressa staying on for one more season. A young kid needs to be cut which is a sad thing.

Warfe and McPherson are as good as gone, Nicks might be traded, so that leaves 2 spots to clear. One would go to Cressa if he does indeed retire, leaving a spot for a young kid.

It's out of Hunt, Ablett, and Buchanan to be delisted, while Scott Stevens is up for a trade.

A couple of months ago, Roos and Andrew Irelenad were mentioning about drafting between 5-7 players from this year crop.

So expect some deep cutting at the end of the year.

We probably have seen the last of the likes McPherson, Warfe and Buchanan.

If James, MJ and McGlone are all to be promoted, expect Stevens, Albett, Hunt and Nicks to be on the chopping block too.

I recon Ablett will make it just on his improved form. Unless he doesn't get on with somone in the coaching dept.

Am I the only one, who thinks that Ablett probably won't make it?

I think Ablett SHOULD stay, but this is without having much of a look at the numbers.

IMHO he is at the safer end of a bunch of blokes with question marks over their heads - these are IMHO Buchanan, Stevens, Warfe, Nicks, McPherson, Ablett, Hunt. To make room for draftees, SOME of these guys will HAVE to go. I think Noggy has the talent, but he might be unlucky.

One player I've always had a lot of time for is Amon Buchanan, doesn't really look like much of a footy player but always managed to show glimpses of just how good he could be. I reckon he's in trouble come the end of the season though.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

                        I have no idea really.

I haven't seen enough of him.

Has he done what the club has asked of him and a little bit more?

If so, yeah, he should stay

Reckon Hunt will survive, unless the club thinks that his body will never be up to league footy. Was very young when drafted and always going to be a long term prospect. He's a potential KPP and there aren't many of those going around, plus the really good ones will be gone well before we get a pick.

Nog's played very well this year in the ressies and yes (I can't remember who) it was posted here playing well in the ressies and playing well in the seniors are two different things, but I think he is playing better than he was last year, he appears to have toned his body a bit more and lost some of that puppy fat he was carrying.

I'd like to see him get another year at it.

Aren't squads increasing to 40 next year?

Anyhow, trying to take a rational look at this -

As I understand it, only McPherson of the senior players is out of contract, so presumably he's gone.

Of the youngsters, Doyle, Stevens and O'Keefe have had four years to make their mark, with limited success. It appears that only O'Keefe is uncontracted, so he must be at risk. Stevens has been the least impressive of the three, so he also must be a candidate for the boot.

Cresswell, Seymour and Nicks are all hanging in there, so they must be likely to play on next year. Warfe's future probably depends on whether the Swans can afford to pay him out of his contract (and pay someone to take his place).

The next group in the gun-sights must be Ablett, Buchanan and Sundqvist. Of these, Sundqvist seems to be slightly favoured by the match committee, and Buchanan has been stymied by injury. In contrast, Ablett has been comparatively injury free but still can't get the attention of the selectors - he's got to be on the chopping block.

Hunt is the same age as Dempster, McVeigh and Thewlis. Dropping him would make no sense at all.

So, my money would be on McPherson, Stevens, Warfe and Ablett for delisting, with O'Keefe, Buchanan and Sundqvist at risk if any trade interest is shown.

Another option I guess is to put Mieklejohn back on the rookie list, particularly if a back-up ruckman can be picked up in the trade.
