Is Schneider up to No 14

My thoughts are that he could be - wouldn't he get a lift to wear that jumper number in the finals.....

Can this happen - are they tied to a number all year??

Is he good enough to be given the number? Yeh IMO

Give him a go - Kell plans to move back home at the end of the year. He could present it to him before he goes. (I'm sure that Bobby Skilton would agree?) could be done early.

the swans have rested the jumper for a year - swans didn't make the finals last year - therefore one year has past....

    Worth a thought

I have said this before ...

I think Schneider should stick with 36. Seems to be known under that number now. Let him create his own history ...

Who knows what will happen with the no. 14. I would be happy either way, with Schneider getting a lift if he receives the no.14 or creating his own history in the no.36.

Although I have no doubt he is capable of being a champion, one season is not enough to start comparing him to Kell or Skilton IMO.

Let's see after a couple more years.

I agree, let him create his own, but if they were to offer it to him and he accepted, wouldn't it be great to add to that already distinguished history. I've no doubt he could.

            NO WAY!!!!!

Nobody is going to get #14 after one season out-of-the-box.

Schneider is good... actually, he's been very good. But even if he wants #14, he's going to have to keep it up!!!

Agree, there have been plenty of one hit wonders so lets just give him a few more seasons to prove his worth.(Iam sure he will)

14 should be rested for at least another 4 years.

This is a tradition in the making...I think No 14 should be reserved for VERY special players only... and while adam has some great qualities, lets see how he further develops next year and the year after. He has the ability at the moment to ignite the team with the occasional act of sheer brilliance, but more game time will hopefully see him lift in consistency and dynamism...In some regards he reminds me a bit of micky...able to do mercurial things...Final word, lets just wait and see!
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Maybe in time he will earn it. I have no doubt that AS is very very capable of doing just that, but IMHO it's too early to tell. There's certainly a lot to like about the way Schneides plays his footy. Very honest sort of player.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I am so in disagreement with these sentiments....

I don't like the idea of retiring a number, even for a year.

Give it to a promising youngster.

Holding on until a player seems to have 'earnt' it just seems to make it too much of a precious item which only has any significance because the club have waited for talented players to step into it.

If it is handed to simply a promising younger player, and they happen to become a star, then the numberTRUELY lives on as something special.
And if it takes 10 or 20 years for another great to wear it, then so be it.......

Hey, I was unhappy when they gave Ben Mathews #4! And felt he was a bit petulant to keep it when Plugger came back. With the benefit of hindsight, it didn't much matter. And I don't think Kel is likely to come back, but I do think the jumper should be retired for a couple of years at least.

As has been said, one season does not a star make. When he's got a few starring seasons under his belt, then talk about it.

Think about Goodesy, he won Rising Star and then didn't live up to the promise, just showed glimpses of brilliance. We need consistency, particularly for that jumper.

Let's hope Schneiderman wins the Rising Star award and that I haven't put a motza on him.

So honest in fact that he said to Fossie in an interview for Swanning Around that he pulled his goal last week out of a place where the sun don't shine!

Schneiderman should definately be given the jumper next year imo

he is the perfet candidate given his efforts so far and the type of player he is. to put conditions like 'you must be a great player for several years before wearing the jumper' on him is ludicrous!!

who wore the jumper between Kelly and Skilton??

did they have to achieve greatness before wearing it? Did Kelly?

i am happy enough for numbers to be reserved for a year, but i think handing them on is a great thing for the likes of Skilton and Kelly and I am confident they would want to see their number in action. they would probably get a great deal of pleasure out of seeing a promising youngster run around in it

on the subject of Mathews, yes it annoyed me too that he didn't give back the jumper - at least he would have been remembered for something positive if he had

If you wait until a player proves themselves worthy, you may never get around to giving it to anybody.

IMO, one year is enough to retire it.

HOWEVER, to give it to him, or anybody, now leading into the finals is madness. As if a young player doesn't have enough to cope with in a finals series early in their career without the added pressure of getting 'The Number'.
