    Next captain...

I reckon these three are the standout choices... right age, great leaders and all capable of being the standout figurehead for the club over the next 8-10 years. Who, at this stage, is the leading candidate for the top job when Maxi calls it quits?

Out of the three, I'd say Bolton would have to be the best chance. But how would any of us really know if any of them are "great leaders", especially Tiger. No offence to the bloke though.

Well... yeah... maybe. I'm just basing that on their ability to communicate and their on-field performance (the biggest component of leadership in my mind is example). All three have been spoken about by their teammates as leadership material, as well.

Goodes' attitude this year has been vastly improved over previous years IMHO. In the past he seemed to get dispirited in a Richo kind of way (without such bad dummy spits) but this year he just keeps on keeping on.

Charlie, we've just got a new Captain. Why start talking about the next one. Wait till Stewie announces his retirement before worrying about who will succeed him.

I agree. Plus, the use of the standout in this team is a huge call. Any one of ten would feature in calculations, particularly Kirk, O'Loughlin and Bolton C.

I recon if Goodes has another seasone like this one or even takes another step up then he is a shoe in for the job. So long as he has the respect of the rest of the team.

Goodesy doesn't strike me as a captain.

Micky would be my choice, he lifts us like noone else, and the players seem to rise around him.

Of the 3 mentioned in the poll, only Goodes really stands out to me as a captain (Bolton is borderline). I don't think TK is captain material at this stage. Not really his style.

I think Stuie Maxfield will be captain for one more year, then possibly Goodes or Williams.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

The only reason Charlie put up this thread is to get to a 1000 posts as soon as possible.

How's the VCE study going Charlie. Are you aiming for a degree in Sydney Swans trivia.

When do you find the time to study, or are you just a genius?????

Well, if Stewie reneged his captaincy, I'd still be in favor or Crouch.

But I see no reason for him not to continue on.

Those at the club are the ones who really know if he is doing a good job or not in that regard.
To me it isn't related to his on field form much at all.
He isn't a Kelly type captain who needs to perform as his main role.
He is more of a verbal captain.

The reason I believe Jude is FSC is because of his leadership effort. Watch him, he encourages everyone, he counsels the younger guys, he really works the team, as well as doing his own role. The other guys still play as part of the team but are focused on their own efforts, Jude has since I can remember, been doing the whole team effort. He's always been determined at the ball, this year he's getting great results as well. He puts everything in and is a well rounded player. He also presents very well and is engaging. I know I'm biased, but the reason I am biased is because I was impressed with his attitude years ago and that made him my standout player, and everything he has done since and every time I have spoken to him, he has impressed me more.

I have hired many people over the years and in many cases you can pick those who go on to be leaders very easily. I believe he's one.

See Justin Herald .... he started his company, Attitude, with borrowed stuff and $50. Jude's got the right Attitude.

Goodes is a certainty. High profile and leads by example. Also finds something when we are under the pump.
