A brilliant game from Nic. It was a shame he couldn't end that big run down the middle with a goal in the 2nd quarter. Only a small blight on his game though."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

No I can't agree here, he was OK yesterday but his disposal is way too sloppy when he is under pressure and he still gets pushed off the ball. He doesn't have much of a defensive game and has no goalsense up forward. It's a pity really because he can find the footy, but contributes very little with his usage of the ball, I wince every time he gets it. I don't really enjoy ripping one our players this bad but I have just never been a big fan of Fosdike's game.
When he was doing that run towards goal in the last quarter I was rapt as I thought it was Maxfield. I noticed it was Fosdike in the last 20 metres and I just knew nothing good would come of it. :-/ I hope he can improve but some things are more inbuilt and goal sense it one of them. His footpassing has not shown much improvement in recent seasons.
I live in hope but think he may be tradeable for a good key position player of a high draft pick.Comment

All these comments about his poor disposal despite being able to get plenty of the ball are almost identical to those about Jude Bolton last year. Only this year have we seen a huge improvement by Jude with his kicking especially. As the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect". If Fossy continues to get 20+ possessions, its a matter of time until they are effective. He was a 30+ possession winner when he was a junior before he came to the club IIRC. He will get there. The last few weeks have seen a huge improvement by him. After all, before this everyone was complaining that he didnt get enough of the ball. He's fixed that recently, and a small increase in his disposal (which may just be a confidence thing anyway) will see him improve enormously.
He will come good. Jude has done it this year. Now its Fosdike's turn!Visit my eBay store -

I'm with Gunn on this one. The people I was with at the game had him traded at half time given his appalling disposal.
His kicking is ordinary but also he handpasses to people under the pump on too many occasions, and short steps in tough situations. He just seems to find trouble.
He started the same year as Jude Bolton but Jude has taken the next step, whereas for a player who gets the footy as much as Nick he is still making the same mistakes.
I don't have any dislike or malice towards Nick, but I believe he has plateaued and is unlikely to go to the next level.Comment

The following players copped a hammering on this board all week, had great games yesterday:
Nick Fosdike (terrific yesterday)
Ben Matthews (surprised even me)
Nick Davis (simply brilliant in the 2nd half)
Barry took the best the Dees had in defence yesterday and look who stood up, Nick Davis.
Goodesy and Mick were terrific. The Pain of Discipline is Nothing Like The Pain of DisappointmentComment

Nick did well today - shows promising signs of a possible inside/receiving player. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment
