Has Schneider done enough to win the Rising Star this year? I think if Mitchell has a bad game today then Schneider would be a very good chance.

I haven't really seen any of the other contenders but he has had such a spectacularly good and consistent season that he would have to be in the mix.
(As an aside TEN commentary yesterday said he "Could develop into 30-35 goal player". Pity they hadn't noticed that he ALREADY IS a 30 goal player) -
lol yeh i noticed that too.Adam Goodes: Rising Star 99, Brownlow 2003, 2006

The voting system doesn't seem to work on a match by match basis like the Brownlow. Rather, there are five or six judges each of who give 1-5 votes to their top choices over the season.
Placings will be interesting because there's a huge amount of hype surrounding the likes of Polak, Goddard, Wells, Ball and Sampi simply because they were high draft picks. Each of these players is going to be very good when they develop, and all have played some outstanding football this year but I'd question whether they've been as consistent as our lad.Comment

Sam Mitchell from Schneids, Polak, Ball and Wells.Comment

Apparently Sam Mitchell had a blinder today again got a high amount of possessions and saved the team when they started to lose the plot <g>
Granted the above summary came from one of my friends who is a Hawks supporter and the rumour around the club is he's got a chance to capture as many as 15 Brownlow votes.Comment

I think Chriso was trying to say that the AS is a polished performer. He will get more time (because the high profile forwards get the best backmen) and having the natural poise that he does makes him look great.
He is fast and loves a goal, has a natural love for them more than most. His love of a goal reminds me of Milne circa 2002.
I reckon Adam is less of a one trick pony than Milney. The mark of a great rookie goal sneak is his ability to become a strong goal kicking midfielder. Rumour has it is that he will be spending a lot more time on the ball in 2004.The Pain of Discipline is Nothing Like The Pain of DisappointmentComment

All will be revealed at 12:30 on Thursday....but IMHO Schneids won't win it. My tip is Mitchell - but something to keep in mind about Mitchell compared with Schneids:
Mitchell made his senior debut in 2002, playing 9 games, leaving him just eligible for the award on that basis. Out of the games he didn't play in the seniors, he still managed to win the VFL B&F, on the basis of numerous 3-vote performances.
Schneids hadn't played senior footy before this season. Even the number of games he had played in the reserves was limited due to an injury plagued 2002. There lies a huge difference in experience.
I know the award doesn't go to the best first year player, but Schneids could well be the number 1 player out of the group who have made their senior debut in 2003.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Definitely agree with your comments there Mike.
My friend the Hawks supporter has been going on about him for a few years now stating exactly what you said above about VFL & the senior games he played.
It's kind of like Gary Abblett Jr. playing the one too many games last year to be ineligible for the award this year.Comment
