thats good, 8 day break, and we can watch and hope that the pies get up on sat night before our game, so we can be assured a home final at some stage no matter what.

To clarify ... GUARANTEED HOME FINAL IN OUR 2ND MATCH (week 2 if we lose to Port, or week 3 if we beat Port)

        IF WE WIN ...
        week 2 - bye
week 3 - HOME prelim vs (winner of (loser col/bris) v (winner adel/wcoast) - prob Bris
week 4 - grand final (if we win week 3)

        IF WE LOSE ...
week 2 - HOME semi vs (winner freo/ess)
week 3 - MCG prelim vs (winner coll/bris) (if we win week 2, and yes it'd be bris v syd @ mcg!!!)
week 4 - grand final (if we win week 3)

Please explain why Brisbane will not get the home PF if they beat the Wobbles on Saturday night, leaving us to play our PF in Melbourne.

No you misunderstand my post ... I know its hard to explain what I meant lol

the LOSER of Coll/Bris will play the WINNER of Adel/WCoast.

We will play the winner of THAT in Sydney IF we beat Port.

ie if Bris beat Pies, Pies will play winner Ade/WC.
We'll play winner of THAT in SYDNEY Prelim.

If Pies beat Bris, Bris will host winner Ade/WC.
We'll play winner of THAT in SYDNEY Prelim.

BUT the problem is ... Whoever WINS Coll/Bris will play THEIR Prelim in Melb cos if we beat Port WE will be higher (having beaten 1st place team) and host prelim I THINK. Maybe they'll still look @ round 22 and say Bris WAS higher than Syd so Bris @ Bris & Syd @ mcg???? Stupid contract!

              and host prelim I THINK
OK, we are making some ground here.

              You THINK you are correct.

Methinks you are wrong. The winner of Lions/Wobbles will rank higher than Sydney (4th) and thus Brisbane will/should get home PF.

However, this interesting comment from Demetriou on AFL.com is worth looking at:

"The AFL considered five major factors in order of importance in determining the finals fixture - 1. Ladder position, 2. Travel load, 3. Round 22 fixture, 4. Maximizing attendances at all finals, 5. Remaining weeks of the finals fixture," Mr Demetriou said.
              #4. Maximising attendances.

Now in the PF week, an MCG PF would be close to a sellout regardless. A Sydney PF, probably against Collingwood would almost certainly be a sellout (80,000 +) A Gabba PF would also be a sellout, but only 35,000'ish? Could be interesting, but brisbane would be entitled to squeal loud and long if they are stitched up like that.

Ideally, if we win then we want Collingwood to also win (giving a us a home PF (because Collingwood has the other PF) but if we lose then we would prefer Collingwood to also lose as this would mean that (after we win the semi) we meet Brisbane at the MCG in the PF and Collingwood would have to go to AAMI to play Port. Port would get the home PF and Brisbane would miss out.

At the moment, it is all too confusing to me. Last week i decided to forget about predicting what would happen so I'm just going to let Sydney do what it has to do (win) and see what happens.

Yep!! All we have to do now is extend our winning streak to four!

under no circumstances should anybody be barracking for Collingwood. Not now, not never.

Think big picture Nicko, we dont want to play a melbourne team in the grand final. The home ground advantage would be too much. We are aiming for a flag, not just to win a prelim.

So the best result for us is Collingwood out in straight sets. Essendon probably wont win in perth unless the dockers get stage fright.

Saying, that I understand the Sydney media is gearing up for a full on "anti-AFL and its vic bias" if Sydney win the 1st week, and cant host the prelim. With the NRL finals starting that time, and the RU WC gearing up, it will be a very sensitive time for the AFL.
The AFL realise that with this campain, and if the swans lose the non-"home" final it will put the code back 5 years, not to mention missing out on the TV bonanza of the swans in a grand final again. (which would help the next tv deal)
End result, they are very likely to change the rule for prelims.

If the above scenario does eventuate, we should all join in, with vitriolic letters to the editor against the AFL.

as BBB pointed out, if we had a home prelim we could host more people than the 'G...

i think the AFL would prob be able to use this excuse to squeeze out of the 'G contract...

I disagree. Even if we play Collingwood in the grand final, 80% of the MCG would probably be supporting the Swans anyway. The same would happen if we played Port Adelaide I presume.

I'd prefer playing Collingwood than Brisbane in its 3rd grand final in a row.

I wasn't suggesting we may get a home PF at the expense of the MCG, but at the expense of the Gabba.

Thats quite possible, and a very sad state of affairs that would be. A Wayne-Jackson type decision. We'll see if Andrew is made of sterner stuff.
