    Herald Sun rankings

    In case we needed any confirmation that the Herald Sun rankings are ****ed and a completely stupid idea, we need look no further than the fact that the Captain is rated 121st and Leaping Leo 161!!!

    Apparently Michael O'Loughlin hasn't had as good a year as Dean Rioli or Paul Chapman or Joel Bowden or Aussie Jones.

    Barry Hall isn't in the top 100 players in the league - neither is Sam Mitchell or Jade Rawlings or Jonathan Brown!

    Sydney have 6 players in the top 100......
    Hawthorn have 4.......
    Fremantle have 4.......
    Brisbane have 6........
    Adelaide have 6.......
    Collingwood have 7.......

    .......and Richmond have 9! Good one, HUN.

          maybe they put a list of all of the players on the wall and threw darts at it as way of deciding????

              While I agree with what you said, the HS list is based entirely on statistics and not how good/effective the player has been.

              Because it is based on statistics (kick, handball, mark, clanger etc) it all goes to show is that Richmond leave it up to too few and have a @@@@*d up game plan, while the Swans spread the load and play to an effective gameplan.

              What will be interesting is when Mike Sheahan and the other HS writers come up with their 50 best players list, as this is subjective you will then see how they rank our players amongst their peers.

                  I believe that Sydney are 15th on the AFL list in terms of total possessions this year, putting pay to the myth that we play a high possession brand of footy* that some experts are still trotting out (eg Parkin on TF last week). Added to the fact that what possessions the team does get tend to be evenly spread, I'm surprised we have even that many players ranked in the top 100.

                  *except when we're playing poorly - then the guys seem to revert to over-usage, as we've all witnessed at times in the last few weeks

                      Spot-on Lizz. I take a quiet satisfaction that we don't have a player high on the list of possession getters on "the list".

                      I mean you would swear the Western Bulldogs were leading the comp with their guys consistently featuring and they play a terrible flavour of footy.

                          Yes imo those lists in heral-sun mean jigger all,think about the only stats we are high up in or way on top is accuracy for goal.How often do these so called exsperts shoot themselves in the foot by refering to these meaningless stats.
