    My dream draw for 2004

    Round 1: Hawthorn (SCG)
    Round 2: Brisbane (Stadium Australia)
    Round 3: Richmond (Docklands)
Round 4: Kangaroos (SCG) Friday night
    Round 5: Essendon (MCG)
Round 6: Melbourne (SCG) ANZAC Day
Round 7: Port Adelaide (Football Park)
    Round 8: Adelaide (Stadium Australia)
    Round 9: St Kilda (Docklands)
    Round 10: West Coast (Subiaco)
    Round 11: Bulldogs (SCG)
    Round 12: Collingwood (Stadium Australia)
    Round 13: Carlton (Princes Park)
    Round 14: Fremantle (SCG)
    Round 15: Geelong (SCG)
    Round 16: Hawthorn (MCG)
    Round 17: Brisbane (Gabba)
    Round 18: Richmond (SCG)
    Round 19: Kangaroos (Docklands)
    Round 20: Essendon (Stadium Australia)
    Round 21: Port Adelaide (SCG)
    Round 22: Melbourne (MCG)

7 games in Melbourne, we also go to every major football city. The Canberra game is dumped. 3 at Docklands, 3 at the MCG and one at Princes Park (our supporters own that ground).

4 games at Stadium Australia, spaced out like the previous two years. Essendon, Collingwood (ceding to the idea of it being the only game of the week in round 12), Adelaide and Brisbane. Non-Vic clubs for the first time, I think they'll draw as least as well as Carlton

    8 games at the SCG.

I can't see much about this that isn't fair... It's not the world's easiest draw at all. I'm relatively sure that the ANZAC round next year is round 6... so similar this year, rounds 6 and 22 correspond, as do rounds 7 and 21.

I like that draw. It means that I get to go to at least 7 games, probably 8 because I'll go to Sydney once. Now me just have to create the draws for all of the other teams and send it to the AFL!

How many would Adelaide at Stadium Australia draw? Surely not that many?

Surely Hawthorn at Telstra Stadium would draw more than Adelaide.

maybe not too many adelaide supporters but hopefully we can keep this year's attendances momentum and then some and get more swannies supporters along

Well... the idea of putting Adelaide there instead of Hawthorn (which I did consider btw) is that putting another good team there should mean more of the "event crowd" go... I'd rather 15,000 of them over 5,000 Hawthorn supporters making the trip.

We also need attendances at the SCG ticking over. The Hawthorn, Richmond and Port Adelaide games would all draw over 30,000, I'd think.

Why would we want to play both Brisbane and Port twice? And I'd rather the Swans finish the season in Sydney rather than in Melbourne.

Realities, mate. We HAVE to play some good clubs twice - we have Port, Brisbane, Essendon and Hawthorn in my model. We are also shackled to playing Melbourne in the last round at the MCG, for as long as we keep the ANZAC Day match, because the AFL loved the Derby, Showdown and Ess v Coll weekend.

Not EVERYTHING will go our way... I've tried to find a happy medium.

Okay, understandable. But it seems that of all the teams to play twice, Brisbane and Port would have the biggest home advantage (especially if they go all the way this season, which is highly likely). At least in Melbourne the Swannies have quite a big following.

And I forgot about the ANZAC day match...now it makes sense

I would like to throw in the idea of a R21 game at StadeOz between Essendon and Collingwood (the rematch of the ANZAC day game)? Take a blockbuster out of Vic and see how it goes?

                            I second that idea.

I've done a bit of thinking along similar lines, and here's mine for Sydney:
Round 1 - v Essendon, Stadium Aust (Sat night)
                            Round 2 - v Port, Football Park
                            Round 3 (Easter) - v Richmond, MCG
                            Round 4 - v Geelong, SCG (Sunday)
                            Round 5 (Anzac) - v Melbourne (Sunday 25th PH)
                            Round 6 - v Brisbane, Gabba
                            Round 7 - v Kangaroos, Manuka
                            Round 8 - v Fremantle, SCG, Sunday
                            Round 9 - v Hawthorn, MCG
Round 10 - v Adelaide, SCG, Sat night
Round 11 (QB) - v Carlton, Princes Park, Sunday
Round 12 - v Collingwood, Stadium Aust (Sat night)
Round 13 - v Bulldogs, SCG, Sunday (away)
                            Round 14 - v West Coast, Subiaco
Round 15 - v St Kilda, SCG, Sunday
                            Round 16 - v Essendon, Docklands
Round 17 - v Port Adelaide, SCG, Sat night
Round 18 - v Richmond, Stadium Aust, Sat night
                            Round 19 - v Geelong, Kardinia Park
                            Round 20 - v Melbourne, MCG
                            Round 21 - v Brisbane, SCG, Sunday
Round 22 - v Kangaroos, SCG, Sat night

Trips to Victoria for both the Easter and QB long weekends; one visit each to Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and Geelong. The teams that missed out on a Sydney trip this year all have games in Sydney, so their Sydney-based fans don't miss out 2 years in a row. The Swans only play 3 of this year's top 8 twice, and come home with a wet sail with the last 2 at home.
12 games in Sydney - 3 Saturday nights at Stadium Australia, 3 Saturday nights at the SCG, 6 Sunday afternoons at the SCG; including one on Anzac Day which is a Sunday.

Nice draw, but unfortunately both SA and WA clubs must play 10 home games against interstate sides (exc derbies)

This totals 40 games. 14 teams x 3 = 42. So unless you are Collingwood and especially if you are Sydney we will always play at least 3 matches in WA and SA.
