Adelaide has sent a study to AFL that the main reason for the slow ticket sale is the simultaneous telecast of both games in Adelaide. They're saying if the telecast was delayed perhaps more people would turn up.

That is interesting, and actually quite disturbing. I don't understand how a footballing community in supposedly such a passionate football heartland could be so influenced by whether the game is on the box or not. Especially when it involves a club as successful as Port have been this season.
EVERY crowd we get in Sydney is against a live TV telecast. The AFL and Channel 9 deem that it is better to try and expose the game to everyone, even if that means we miss out on getting 2-3000 fairweather fans when it rains etc etc. I guess they see it as trying before you buy.....
To be honest I've been muted about the poor tickets sales as I fully support Port's right to hold a home final, having been in top position after the home and away series. Especially when the game could have been in Melbourne had the MCG been anal enough.
Sadly I think all the interstate club's should should concern as to why both Adelaide clubs are not going to fill out Footy Park. It is embarrassing for the concept of the national competition. If the crowd isn't full, I'm sure the rugby league types at work will chirp up about it.
Our game can do without that.

But Channel 10 would have got subsequently less in TV advertising revenue.
I think that has something to do with why the games are shown in SA live.
All very sad, I think.

Their idea of a home game is sitting in front of the box with a six pack of west end.
A smallish crowd will be good for our boys and depressing for Port's players if their fans can't even bother turning up to their biggest game of the year so far.

What has gone wrong for Port over in SA is that the massive support that the SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies has not translated across to "Port Power".
The 2 big factors I think that have caused this are:
1) The Crows were already well-established by the time Port came into the AFL and many traditional Port barrackers had already started following the Crows
2) Some-how, and for some inexplicable reason, the AFL-based Port Adelaide have gone to great lengths to stress they are not the same club as the Port Magpies. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
On this second point, my hunch (given that I haven't lived in SA for over 2 decades) is that "marketing people" from the rich eastern side of Adelaide advised the "new look" Port to dissociate themselves from their traditional supporter base (one-eyed one-toothed working-class Magpie supporter types that they found embarrassing) in order to try for a more broad appeal like the Crows had attracted. This has back-fired badly.
Port'sr attendances this year are the second-worst in the league. Only Western Bulldogs are lower - and they should've been allowed to fizzle into obscurity years ago instead of being propped up by the league IMHO.

Sorry mate, that is total crap, get your facts right.

On rechecking, and including the Manuka and York Park crowds, I found Port had the 3rd lowest average crowds:
Western Bulldogs: 26984
Geelong: 28380
Port Adelaide: 28567
But Port did not have to play at York Park or Manuka Oval which (unfairly I think) reduces a team's average attendance, eg:
Round 17: Geelong v Kangaroos, Manuka Oval, 10233
Round 21: Bulldogs v St Kilda, York Park, 15637
Leaving out those crowds would put Port's average at second lowest.
In comparison, the Crows got an average of 37936 this year.
For some reason Port always seem to get crap crowds at their home finals games. Adelaide seemed to manage good crowds though at their two home finals.

That's not bad for Geelong, since they played 8 games at "Skilled", which doesn't hold must more than 22,000.
