    Swans, money and the AFL....

    So we're up again.

Been said that we may break even this year, after all the fuss about the cash strapped Swans.

So how does the national comp look?

Is the Swans' supporter base growing, and will we set ourselves up for long life financially after our little scare?

When (or will?) Sydney get a second team?

Is it just a fluke that the interstate teams are dominating, or is there more to it?

Just on the question:will or when will we get a second Sydney team?Imo itll be at least another ten to fifteen years at least and thatll have to depend on whether the swannies can win a flag or two and then itll be time.

For purely selfish reasons - I hope it's many, many years before we get a 2nd team in Sydney. I don't mind the Swans cornering the current generation of Auskickers as fans, plus the rest. I want the Swans to be as powerful as possible, so why would I want our potential support diluted?

But if the AFL was seriously looking at it... they'd be suicidal to do it now I reckon.

For AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL to succeed in NSW, there will need to be two teams based here. I don't think that will be in the next ten years, but it WILL happen.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Theoretically the draft and salary cap means there is no reason why any of the 16 teams can't be competitive on field.

But as far as sponsorship, memberships and gate receipts go, the interstate teams have a big advantage compared to the 10 clubs all competing in the same market in Melbourne.

It is way too early for the AFL to entertain thoughts of a second team in Sydney. The market here is still developing and the Swans should be given every opportunity to tap into it.

In saying that, (as hard as it is to say) teams like Collingwood should be applauded for putting their money where their mouths are and do something to develop the game here. We should all be working towards the same goal and that is to make this city a footy town, even if we have to put up with Eddie's stupid comments (BlackandwhiteTown) now and then.

I agree. We should applaud the Club. But not the team.
