    I Deserve This

Ok, maybe I haven't suffered as long as some....I'm only 30 after all.
But I've shed blood, sweat, many tears and a mountain of cash over the years as a supporter (yes,'supporter', not 'barracker'.....you bandwagon stow-aways know who you are) and I reckon my time is due.

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. There have been people that have lived their entire lives and died without seeing the Swans win a Premiership. Some of the poor bastards saw them lose in '45 and '96 to make it worse. What you deserve means nothing!

When did you shed blood for the team? That's the story I want to hear!

My Nanna was three when the Swans won their last premiership so she never really remembers the Swans winning one. She is a member of the Cheersquad and comes to almost every single game in Melbourne. If that isn't dedication, I don't know what is.

It's a little known fact that I am actually 69 years old.

I was born the day after the Swans won the flag in 33.

I remember all I wanted for my 12th birthday was to see them win that flag, it had seemed like we would NEVR win one over those 12 years, but, alas, it was not to be.

I have been a paid up member for the duration, moved to Sydney with the team, and thought that 96 would be our year.

How sad just as I turned 63, we lost again.
All those 12 year old memories came back to haunt me.

But I persisted with the team.
          I have lived well.
I don't smoke or drink and figure I had another 30 years to see a flag come our way.

This one is out of the blue.
By coincidence, the GF falls on my 70th borthday.
What a present that would be

But I don't deserve it, I pray for it

My dad went to the '45 bloodbath GF - 'You dirty thing Chitty!!" is what he remembers most. I think he deserves to see them win for following them for over 60 years!!

Is that why your profile says you are born in December 1969?

Nah - he's getting a bit senile - he meant to say he was born in December and he is 69!!

                    Arnt you special then.

We all deserve to watch the bloods win the flag just as much as the next fan.

Thinking you deserve to a win more than the next swannie is a bit pompous and exclusive for my liking.

                      Everyone deserves it.

IMO the team deserve it the most -
                      * After the shiite year they had last year
                      * the loss of big names Kelly, Lockett, Dunkely etc etc
                      * The wooden spooners tag they carried at the start of this year and the fact that most didn't give them a hope in hell.
                      * the unbelievable committment and never say die attitude they have had within themselves
                      * Carrying the underdog status and beating it time and time again, including wins against Collingwood, Brisbane and now Port Adelaide at their home grounds!
                      * Also that they don't have one superstar but have all pulled their weight and stepped up - esp the likes of Jude and Brett Kirk
                      * The introduction of unknown youngsters that have played with passion and competed against seasoned professionals
                      * Their last grand final was a loss so it's only fair to win it.

The list goes on and on (but my time is limited - note to myself to edit when I come back ....)

The pride the team has equals the passion of their supporters - us - and all those associated with the swans.
                      We all deserve it!!!

Though this year they have surpassed all expectations and if they don't make it, we should just be so proud of the year they have had.

                        I have a story.

My Grandfather (Jim), Nico's father, died this year on February 8th. We are a pretty close family, and the bloods are an integral of it. Jim had been a bloods supporter all his life, right up until the last day, through thick and thin he loved the club. If it wasn't for him, none of our family would be following this great club. Jim was there when we won our last flag in '33, and was there when we lost in the famous bloodbath GF, in '45.

Every game we have one this year, reminds us all of him, and it gets quite emotional.

Maybe it's fate that we win the flag this year....

I went to school during a time that everyone eithier jumped on the Hawthorn or West Coast bandwagon! - after the teasing I copped for loving my club, i reckon I would cry if they brought home the cup this year. God the thought almost scares me!

God I would send the front page of the 28/9 Sunday Telegraph to all the little b's i went to school with hehehehe!!!!

But I think back to 1996, the feeling of Grand Final week was awesome. I would just love to have that feeling again. We are just so close, but I am holding back on the excitement at the moment, I just want to relish each moment.

I have only been a supporter for 20 years, since they moved to Sydney. My mum was born in they last GF year, it would just be so fitting to win this year.
