I just looked back at a note I wrote to Barry Hall in May to thank him for becoming such a team player. How prophetic it was.
"On a general team note, last year was difficult for Swans supporters. I remember leaving the SCG after yet another narrow loss and asking how the team could have just given up when victory was at hand. A friend replied "because they are so young they don't realise how few years they have to reach the top." This year it seems like everyone is giving their all and it's great to see. At dinner last night a Canadian friend who came along yesterday for his first AFL game (and left as a convert) said "you guys can relish this win." I replied "We are. But I would have been almost as happy if we'd played just as hard and lost - especially to Brisbane. We just like to leave the grounds knowing our team tried as hard as they could."
Of course that's a lie - we love winning, any way. You guys have always had the skills but the new enthusiasm seems to have raised them several levels. Right now it's wonderful to be a Swans supporter. Good luck for the rest of the season."
And what a season it's been! After watching the game video last night and seeing the Swan's dressing room/casualty ward after the game I have nothing but pride in my team's performance this entire season.
Well done to everyone involved in the Swans football club for a year in which you exceeded everyone's expectations. I can't remember a season where I've felt prouder to be a Swans fan.
All we supporters can ask of a team is that you give it your best shot every game, that you play with heart and commitment and with passion for the club. And that's exactly what the Swans players have done this year, so thank you for that.
And a special congratulations to #8, Daryn Cresswell, for a magnificent Swans career, deservedly rewarded with selection in the Team of the Century. We'll miss you Cressa!
what a fantastic year. It has been a wonderful ride and I am enjoyed the year far too much (to the detriment of my work and family...who are they again?).
I'll be buying my Melbourne membership (with GF preference) for 2004.
Carn the Bloods!!!
"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005
You guys proved a lot of critics wrong and did it by working as a team. Many of you found your niche and took the next step while all of you contributed with blood, sweat and tears. Nothing stirs the hearts of supporters more than seeing the 'bloods' spirit alive and well. I look forward to more of the same next year.
Enjoy the off season and we'll see you at North Sydney against the Dons!
To everyone at the Sydney Swans from Paul Roos through the whole playing squad and all the support staff, a great thank you on behalf of all Bloods fans for a sensational year in 2004.
We look forward to gaining even greater strength in the future across all aspects players , coaching, back room and the membership, even more than 1996 I feel we have finally arrived. Sitting in the Stadium on a beautiful evening with 70000 plus fans predominantly in red and white is the setting the players deserved for a great wholehearted effort in 2003.
Once again Go Bloods, and bring on 2004, we cannot wait!

Thankyou boys for the great season you've shared with your supporters. You have exceeded all expectations and proved so many critics wrong. You have been an inspiration and your self-belief and determination have proved to be stronger than many believed.
You have truely had a wonderful season and I wish you the best for 2004.
They'll never rate us, they'll never give us credit, they'll never think we'll amount to anything. Well done lads, for drawing the line and saying "well stuff ya, we're here to win".
Roosy, congratulations on a decent old rebuilding year. Thanks for showing us that just because you're rebuilding doesn't mean you don't go out there busting a gut for the club.
Cressa, what can I say? Plenty of my best (and most heart-stopping) swans moments feature you.
That's just a taste of it, boys. Who can stop us next year? Only yourselves.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog
I just wanted to say a big thank you and congratulations...At the start of the year there was excitement, as to what our 're-building' year would involve, something so special in the years to come? During the year there was excitement, despair, joy, ecstasy, happiness, with how well our Swannies were doing. Now at the end of the year there is nothing but pride...pride in the team, pride in the coaches, pride in the colours and pride in the SWANS...
You defied your critics, you defied, at times, your own fans...and for that how I love ya' Swannies.
Who knew that the first year into our new era we'd be taken for this ride, straight to the prelim.
It wasn't tears because we lost on Saturday night, it was thank you that we were even there on Saturday night.
It's not tears for the losses, it's thank you for all the wins. Thank you for giving us that belief, if we didn't have it already, that the Swans are so close to that 'something so special'. For all the highs and lows, they were worth it all.
Swannnies this year to me you personified what football is about: passion, determination, guts, heart, bravery, loyalty and honesty.
You've given us all a dream year, and when we wake up in March next year for round 1 , that's ONE LONG SLEEP, we will support, yell, scream, cry, cheer cheer for you as you do what we all believe you can - make that dream, create that dream and live the reality.
If this is the 'Evolution' I can't wait to see what we evolve into!

To everyone at the Sydney Swans Football Club -THANK YOU!
What a season it has been and the boys really did blow us all away with their dedication, determination and their obvious love for their club.
You provided, we the members and fans, with a year that was way beyond expectation. We enjoyed the unbelievable highs and the inevitable lows, but to be a part of it was a great life experience.
I was lucky enough to be on the Swans focus group a couple of months back, to be able to sit around the boardroom table and have some input to where the club is headed was such an honour.
The club is in great hands, 2004 will be an exciting year and we have a team and coach that you cant help but feel extremely proud of.
And to top it off Adam Goodes winning the Brownlow - you have done us all proud.
so Cheer Cheer the Red and the White - only 186 more sleeps and it will start all over again!
