Brisbane?s triumph over Sydney has drawn the greatest television audience for a preliminary final since the Swans last performed as well in September.

The average viewing audience of Saturday night?s match at Telstra Stadium was 1.6 million, and peaked at 2.15 million. The telecast of the 1996 preliminary final between Sydney and Essendon drew an average audience of 1.8 million.

Saturday night?s match, which featured the sides from the AFL?s northern markets, out-rated the Saturday afternoon game between Collingwood and Port Adelaide, which was played at the MCG. An average audience of 1.16 million tuned in to Network Ten during that game, which peaked at 1.4 million.

The elimination of the two West Australian sides in the first week of the finals has not dampened the state?s interest in the September action. Perth?s average viewing audience was the second highest, behind Melbourne, for both preliminary finals.

The average viewing audience of the Swans? match with Brisbane in Sydney was 204,904, but was still the lowest of the capital cities ? behind Adelaide with an average of 205, 742. But Sydney?s average viewing figure for the Collingwood-Port Adelaide preliminary final was 99,627, compared to Melbourne?s 471,963.

Network Ten?s coverage of grand final day begins at 8am on Saturday with the Kangaroos? traditional grand final breakfast, and continues until 6pm. The pre-match entertainment begins at 1:30pm, before the opening bounce at 2:30pm.

You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler
