    N.Stevens quits Port

Nick Stevens has officially quit the Port Power footy club.he is seeking a melb based club only.

Also Scott Lucas has re-signed with the bombers for another 3 years, there is 1 uncontracted key defender/forward out of our sights now.

    Scotty signed 3 days ago.
As I've been saying Stevens will become a Collingwood player.

A rumour circling around Junction Oval, is that a former top draft pick, midfield player has had a falling out with the coach. Apparently the coach sees this player as being rather lazy and not committed to footy. The club is looking to off-load him and Sydney are rumoured to have shown some interest .... just a rumour.

Whilst it would have been nice to see Scotty running around in the red and white I'd pefer that we develop our own talent rather than chasing big name uncontracted players from other clubs.

Radio says he has done it top return to Melbourne - preferred club is Collingwood.

They got Woewoden last year - do they have a salary cap or what.

I have learned to hate the draft period - it kind of destroys football - a player you have cheered and hoped for suddenly plays for someone else.

Someone you've hated, despised and loathed suddenly ends up playing for your team.

I don't like Port - but probably thousands of their supporters loved Stevens - and just like that he ups and leaves.

It's cruel and its slowly eating away at the fabric of footy - slowly one club players are not being prized by either clubs, players or supporters.

        Sad really.

        Will only get worse

thanks neorod, i assume that you are talking about tj, i'd suspect there would be a few clubs interested and the asking price would be pretty high

Your right Reggi, but it does cut both ways.

It is sad to see any swans players offloaded to another club, but at the same time there's also excitement and anticipation when there's a new player lining up in the red and white (e.g. willo, davis etc).

Travis Johnstone has really only had 2 good seasons, and maybe a bit injury-prone. Also don't know how he'd fit in with Roos' everyone-accountable hard-working team ethic. He might end up being a great pick-up, just like Barry Hall who was also a risky trade. But I think we'd have to pay a high price for him.

                Two? 2002 and which other?

Hope we stay well clear of this one. As a soft receiver, albeit one with the potential to be a classy player, he doesn't address our needs, and there's no "homesick" factor that means we could get him as a bargain.

Methinks he'll be running around in the navy blue next year if he leaves the Demons.

Around the $350,000 to $400,000 mark , but like many clubs (including mine) Melbourne would be willing to take on some of the payments, just to get him off their list. Apparently he's gone AWOL

Carlton are also interested, but apparently he wants a total change away from the intense football culture. So that leaves Brisbane and Sydney. Brisbane will end up losing one or two players so they're in no position to accomodate his demands, I'm not aware of your cap space. But looking at your list there wouldn't be many players earning $450,000+ and you have been a little more diligent with the new round of contracts... you signed Goodes at a very convenient time. His Brownlow medal would of added another $100 K to his contract had he been out of contract.

Interesting times ahead.. oh yeah discard the Richo rumour, it aint happening.

Have heard some sus stories about Johnstone so would steer clear of him. Does strike me as a bit lazy as well, and I mean in terms of attitude, not just laconic looking on the field. I checked out some port sites and they are getting stuck into Stevens. lack of loyalty etc. Interesting to see if he cops as much as Davis because many are questioning his commitment. I agree Reggi, footy is losing its soul, is business and a bit of a meat market. Though it cuts both ways with players and clubs I suppose.

Sydney have a lot of cap space. This year they paid about 100% of the standard cap, meaning that their additional allowance was effectively unused. This reflects the fact that we lost Schwass, Dunks and Kelly from the 2002 list, all of whom would have been on decent money, and didn't really make any big money signings.

However, I guess they'd be very wary of suddenly increasing TTP to close to the limit with one major signing.

i loved johnstone's 2002, he quickly became one of my fav league players, however... wouldnt give anything more than a 2nd rd pick for this one... could be worth the risk though...

couldn't see them wanting any less than a 1st rounder for him, given that we finished 3rd that would be about pick 16.

I imagine the Dees supporters would go ape droppings if that deal went through, especially after the Woewodin experience.

If he was really keen to head to the Swans they'd definitely consider it.

Has talent - would the a risk. Has played one good season from six.

I think his 'gambling debt' problem is pretty well documented.

Many players turn that around though later in their careers - a lot of younger headcases have matured into good reasonably hard-working midfielders. It would be up to the recruiting guys to judge really.

Must have talent was recruited ahead of Goodes, Tarrant, Ottens, Nick Stevens, L Power, Saddington, Soloman, Croad etc in a very strong draft.

Interesting one - trade period is 13 - 16 October (thankfully mercifully short)

Have the Swans rang you? you drive a hard deal, they could use you. Unfortunately a first rounder for him or maybe our second rounder and a player.
