    Improvement required

    First post.
    Hello everyone

I don't think the Swans are going to pick up any match winners by trading or from the draft so the existing players will have to continue their improvement if they are to win the flag next year.

As a whole ,the team will have to get more meaningful posessions.Sounds obvious but goal kicking accuracy saved them from defeat in many games when the opposition dominated posession.

Centre clearances have to improve.I haven't seen the stats but every game I watch we seem to get slaughtered.eg Hawthorn
    Can anyone replicate Sam Mitchell.

Decision making from quite a few players has to improve.I love The Captain but too many times he handballs to players who are under more pressure than he is.

When Tadgh goes for a run too often he becomes unbalanced at the point of disposal and instead of giving it a big hoof into the forward line he handpasses to a player who has his back to goal and it stuffs up the momentum. That can be fixed easily

Williams seems to be tagging more this time around so I think Tadgh could be moved into the midfield as a running receiver who can deliver into the forward line.

I hope Ball recovers fully so he can give Goodes a hand.
I hope Adam doesn't suffer the Brownlow hangover which afflicts many recipients.

Creswell is going to be sorely missed.Smart, experienced, tough, good posession gatherer, loves a goal.
Maybe O'Keefe could fill the void.He looks like he could be handy as an in and under player at stoppages plus he can kick a goal

I don't mean to sound negative because this was a fantastic and unexpected year but I do think the Swannies can win the flag if they improve in a few areas.

Just the thoughts of a complete hack

Barry, good post. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that I hope Roos is already thinking of improving the current team as well as draft picks.

Like others, I think he and the rest of the coaching team are brilliant - and the vanguard of a new age. I hope if he thinks he can pick up something new in training techniques in the US or Europe that he's just given the budget to go looking.

He's a great team leader - with Stewie - and he has coached the team to be the most accurate in the comp. And, except when they are stuffed at the end of the season, they finish exceptionally hard. So what we need is more depth for the end of season.

Ball should be ruckman, helped by Adam, not the other way around. We need two new players - a tall hard ruckman to support Ball. And we have no tough backs to take it to the likes of Rocca, Carey, etc. I'd prefer Saddington out of defense - he's too often out of his depth.

I love our game of brilliant small defence and fast running forward. But when we play brick walls like Collingwood it can come undone as their bulk slows us in attack and we bounce off in defence. I'm still in mourning that we aren't in the GF but if I was nervous last week I'd be terrified this week as I think the Pies could have shut us down and won. Brisbane virtually did and they are as ingured as we are. (I just hope the Lions hold on to win one more week.)

I've got it! We just need to clone a player that runs and thinks and is built like Goodes and kicks like Nick Davis.

Oh, we've already got one - that's Barry Hall. Clone him then - and see how many teams would be game to take to the field against 18 Bazzas.
