    Fair enough, Reggi...

Lizz, I tend to agree, but we would be stupid to pass him up if the conditions were right.

In the midst of the 'youth policy' frenzy last year, we picked up Davis.

OK, he is younger and has development to go, but he was a risk still, to an extent.
He has come a long was with us this year IMO.

Now Brown is a different proposition.
He is a class player, but one looking to change clubs in an environment of tight salary caps and clubs looking to youth.

If he is prepared to enter the draft, maybe we can get him cheap, and I can't see how that would hurt at all....
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

But we got Davis for pick 20 something. He hasn't set the world on fire but he is young, classy and will probably get better. I have no problem with us trading our second round pick for another player this year, even one slightly lesser quality. After all, in recent years we have used a similar level pick on players like Stevens and Ablett, neither of whom has yet made a telling contribution and the jury is out on whether they ever will (though I'm hopeful on Ablett).

But Brown is in a completely different league in terms of what he would cost us.

Didn't Paul Roos say recently that his priority was a young established mid fielder?

Brown is right on the edge of being a star of the AFL. He has been wasted at the Bulldogs as a forward, because they had no one to kick goals.

When he plays in the mid field he gets big stats. Whoever gets this player will be richly rewarded.

When I saw him interviewed on On the Couch a few weeks back I got the impression he was a person very confident of his own ability. To suggest he does not have the right attituded is pure folly.

At 23 he is the perfect age and if Roos can massage attitudes which he has done, then he can make this guy a star.

His efforts under constant pressure in a poor team in 2003 were bloody good, and if you watch him closely he is not only a smart and thinking player, but a hard one was well.

Brown will be 26 before the start of next season.

Like the Carey trade I think he'll go to the club who wants him most - simple as that. That looks like Richmond.

Maybe I'm off the mark but I'd query his motives for leaving the Bulldogs. He's consistently said money IS an issue for him, and seemingly the Bulldogs put some heat on him and demanded more on and off the field.

A player that is driven by money and who is keen to shirk responsibility when things get tough isn't one you'd move heaven and earth for IMO.

Coming to Sydney would actually most likely be good for his career, but I'd imagine he'll take the easy option and go with Richmond.
