    Hello all

AussierulesOK here, first time I've posted on RWO. For what it's worth I've just moved to Melb after 20 years living in the best city in AUS - Sydney. I still get a tear in the eye when I see the bridge or opera house. For the record I am a born Sainter but after so many years in the harbour city the Swans are very dear to my heart. Also, the Swans do fantastic work round regional area's to promote AFL to schools. I've been back in Melb for 3 years and not once has a team visited my sons school.

Huge congratulations to Adam Goodes and Paul Roos on a great year.

    Regards all, AOK

          AOK,
I have moved to Melbourne after 26 years of living in Sydney. Apart from the winter weather Melbourne isa much better place to live - easier going and friendlier. Following the Swans down here is just as good and people you speak to at games are very knowledgeable about the team and footy in general. Just wish we would ger more games down here.

            come on!

give this sydney v melbourne thing a rest, no one cares.

ive lived in both cities and they are like chalk and cheese.

and remember, the beauty of being a swans supporter is that we have large support bases in both cities.

this fact alone makes us the envy esp of other non victorian clubs.

            moving right along.....

Sorry lescygnes, please allow us city hoppers to compare notes, this isn't a Syd V Melb trolling thread

Wow anne, we were probably driving up and down the Hume at the same time!

Some of the great things about Sydney is that you can go for a walk or drive and soak up the wonderful atmosphere that only a city of 5 mil situated on the best harbour in the world can offer. Add to that the fantastic sandstone every where and the opera house, and the bridge, and the ferries, and the beaches, and circular quay, and, and, and.

              My story,
I was brought up in Manly 100m from the back beach and 100m from the Manly pier and amusment park. I learnt to swin at Shelly beach and in that little rock pool on the way around from Manly.

At the age of 7 we moved to inner city Melbourne. It was a shock to the system and I always yearned to return, which I did at age 20.

I lived in Bondi, then at some squats in Cook Rd, Centenial Park, then Woollarah and Bondi Junction. I ended up moving to Mittagong/Bowral which was ok, as Sydney was only 1 hr away.

Due to family reasons I've returned to Melb, but watch out Sydney siders...."I'll be back"

ive got nothing against people comparing notes on melbourne and sydney, but only if its positive, as was the post from "AussierulesOK".

one thread here says "melbourne is a better place to live" is not in that line of thinking.

that argument was over and done with years ago! moving right along........

                cheers
                John

                  Lescygnes,
I felt that Aussierulsok was feeling a bit miserable about living in Melbourne so I merely tried to cheer him up. I inadvertently said Melbourne is a better place to live when probably I meant that it is also a good place to live. SORREE! I didn't mean to start ww3. Gee I will really think twice about writing anything on this site in future! Both cities are wonderful and both have their pros and cons. Sydney does have the major advantage that the Swans are based there so there are many more games to go to. But sitting at Telstra dome with 40,000 Collingwood supporters when you beat them is a wonderful experience. I think Sydney needs its supporters united and not bickering about which city is best - if I want to argue I can go to the Collingwood site. They are so lucky to have supporters in both cities, it is a big on field advantage.

Thanks anne, you are right, I am a bit home sick. When I needed some pics for the Swans game I typed in Opera House into google, and that's when I got a bit teary.

lescygnes, it says you've only posted here 4 times. If that's right, here's a bit of advice. If you don't like a thread move on to another one. It's that easy.

On the Melb V Syd thing, I've always quite enjoyed those discussions.
Why is it, I can drive all the way across Sydney and back without 1 road rage incident and I can't even get out of my driveway here without someone blowing their horn? Or this.. why is it possible that Sydney drivers can stay in the middle of their lanes, even when the lane sizes are narrow, and Melb drivers find that too hard a task when the lanes here are wide?

Man, I could go on for hours - but I don't want to upset you lescygnes, not on my first thread I've posted here at RWO.

I think your reaction is just a tad overboard!!! Nothing wrong with John's post.

If you react like that to simple posts, maybe you should think twice about posting anywhere!

Welcome AOK...I'm just writing to say that I too grew up in Manly..

I think you are lucky to have left Manly... I couldn't wait to leave!

I know that there must be some great places in Melbourne...namely those where the Swans supporters live!

As for that pesky Melbourne/Sydney rivalry...recently I visited Melbourne for the first time in my adult life and I found the people really nice and the trams very interesting..(The concept of an honour system on public transport was a bit disturbing...Doesn't anybody check your tickets on those things?) *shakes head *

Somebody should explain Melbourne to me one day..mmmmm

                          *grins* Welcome again!

                            Hi chewyonyourboot,
That's the best nickname I've seen on the forums I've shouted that out at opp players many times.

Manly was "10 miles from Sydney, a thousand miles from care" when I lived there. I think that all changed starting around 1970. I still love going there but it has lost alot of the charm it once had.

Speaking of trams, they once had conductors who rode the same tram every day. You got to know them by name. If you fell asleep, they wake you up at your stop, and they knew all the streets and local landmarks which was great for tourists.
Also, they used to be slow on the take off, these days it's very hard to get past them.

BTW, is it true McVeigh is heading to the Swans?

I need someone to explain where a short fare and a long fare end and begin. Asked friends who live there and they couldn't tell me either. I still giggle at that one.
