It is understood that Sydney defender Jason Saddington may be used as part of a trade by the Swans for Carlton's priority pick, No.2 overall, in next month's national draft.

Goodness you guys are bit harsh reckoning players are too old at 26/27. Cast your minds back to the trade period at the end of season 1997... a young homesick lad by the name of Shannon Grant left us and who did we get to replace him? yes an older chap (29 in the November) by the name of Wayne Schwass. I seem to recollect he was a good player for the Swans!
We need a combination of experience and young upcoming players. Don't write off some of these players because of their ages. Just look at a player by the name of Alistair Lynch.
I wouldn't mind seeing Bode's name on our playing listLast edited by AussieAnge; 4 October 2003, 12:15 AM.Bring it on!Comment

Couldn't see it happen though. I thought Saddo signed a new contract this year making him ineligible for trading due to the "Heffernan Rule" or am i wrong?Official Driver Of The "Who Gives A @@@@ As The Player Will Get Delisted Anyway" Bandwagon.

I dont know sounds dodgy to me losing Saddo after all the work weve done with him for someone who is unproven and could take two to three years to developComment

But the same could be said of Hawthorn when they traded Croad for the number 1 pick. It has paid off a treat for them. Croad has been struggling and Hodge is going to become a fine player.Comment

Carlton would have to be utterly insane to accept such a deal. Nothing against Saddington, he's a good player but hardly worth the 2nd pick.
It would also go against Carltons rebuilding philosophy, they would gain nothing out of such a deal. Haven't they learnt anything??Comment

Saddington is a ready made player, a backman, tall, young etc, all the things the Blues are looking for. They may be rebuilding, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to trade for a potential key position player.
We have seen them chase Stevens, Brown, Holland etc. Why wouldn't they go after Saddington.Comment

Shame you find it snide. It's not....meanwhile back at the football.
There has been an ominous silence about Ryan's future. I get the feeling we are going to snaffle someone good, if for no other reason than we have crept under everyone's radar on the field, so why not of it? Amazing that in the rather lengthy "gossip" list in the Age they couldn't even be bothered to find out which of our players are uncontracted. Obviously our recruiting staff are pretty good at not being seen when they have meetings with opposition players and officials.
Your club is in a fairly strong position, seeing as you wouldn't have too many highly paid players on your list (any veterans listed?). So you would think that there'd be room for at least one good players, maybe two.
As I posted earlier TJ from Melbourne is being linked with your club, though how truthful the rumurs is anyones guess.
Oh and, if you haven't already heard, Kennelly is having a hernia op and wont play in the IR series.Comment
